How To Watch Discovery+ For Free

A new year — a new streaming service. This one is brought to us by Discovery, with Verizon customers getting up to a year's worth of content for free according to a press release. Among the available content on the service, which is called aptly, Discovery+, are programs from the BBC's Natural History collection, A&E Networks, and Group Nine. We are excited to share that viewers will get access to exclusive new content from much-loved TV personalities like Chip and Joanna Gaines, as well as Sir David Attenborough, and David Schwimmer. Plus, and no, we aren't kidding, four new 90 Day Fiancé spin-offs are set to premiere on the service.

You can start streaming Discovery+ on January 4, 2021 — tuning into your favorite shows from Food Network, TLC, HGTV, History Channel, and Animal Planet. According to the service's site, viewers get access to 55,000 episodes across over 2,500 shows. So, okay — we're in!

The details of Discovery+ you need to know

It's true that Verizon customers have the opportunity to stream Discovery+ free of charge for up to 12 months, according to the company's website. The offer is available to Unlimited customers, or to those who utilize Fios Internet or 5G Home. Of course, there's a slight — and slightly annoying — catch, which is that the offer is only available to new Fios or 5G Home customers. That being said, if by chance you already subscribed to Discovery+ and are a Verizon customer, you can still get the service for free.

But if you aren't a Verizon customer, and don't plan to become one, it's relatively inexpensive to gain access to Discovery+. According to its site, plans start at just $4.99 per month — a commercial free version of the service is available for $6.99 monthly. That seems reasonable, considering you get access to 90 Day Bares All, 90 Day Diaries, 90 Day Journey, and The Other Way Strikes Back (via The Wrap). Oh, plus a sneak peek of the Gaines' Magnolia Network. Happy New Year indeed!
