Whatever Happened To Cherie Johnson From Punky Brewster?

There are few shows that translate across time for multiple generations and the popular '80s sitcom Punky Brewster is one of those gems. The show centered on the young orphan named Penelope "Punky" Brewster (portrayed by Soleil Moon Frye) who was adopted by Henry Warnimont (George Gaynes) and followed her through the trials and tribulations that can resonate with any coming of age teen. 

While the show only ran for four seasons, premiering its last episode in 1988, per IMDb, its getting a new revival. According to Deadline, the cast discussed the new series on a panel during the TCA Winter Tour. 

During the panel, Fyre, who was joined by original cast members who'll also be on the revival including Quinn Copeland, Cherie Johnson, Laurien Lindsey Donzis, and Freddie Prinze Jr., expressed, "Punky is such a part of me. I don't know where she ends and I begin because we are so much the same." 

So what has Johnson been up since her Punky Brewster days with the crew? Well, the star's been working!

If fans don't know Cherie Johnson from Punky Brewster, they may recognize her from Family Matters as Laura Winslow's best friend Maxine Johnson who ultimately marries Eddie Winslow's friend Waldo. 

The actress appeared in episodes between 1990 and 1998 when the show ended after nine seasons. Per her IMDb profile, she took her talents to films including Teaching Mrs. Tingle, Nobody Smiling, and Guardian of Eden to name a few. 

However, Johnson is bringing her talents back to the small screen in the Punky Brewster revival. She'll be reprising her told as Punky Brewster's best friend Cherie. Punky (Soleil Moon Fyre) is returning as a single mom of three kids who fosters a little girl herself. But of course she needs to bestie to help her on this new-aged coming of age tale. 

On Feb. 17, Johnson tweeted, "We're taking Punky Power to the next level! Thrilled to have WWE Superstars @AlexaBliss_WWE and @MsCharlotteWWE join us for an electric episode of #PunkyBrewster, streaming February 25 on @PeacockTV!"
