The Major Pop Star Who Almost Made It Into The Help

With The Help appearing on Paramount on Saturday, February 27, fans may be thinking about the actors who appeared in the film. For instance, Viola Davis starred, but recently revealed she regrets appearing in the picture. According to USA Today, the movie, which is about Black maids, has come under fire in light of the Black Lives Matter movement given that it was written by a white woman, and directed by a white man.

Davis was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress in 2012 but says The Help does not do the Black experience justice (via IMDb). Likewise, Bryce Dallas Howard, who played Hilly Holbrook in the movie, feels uncomfortable with her role.

Meanwhile, there is another star who did not appear in The Help but who almost ended up in the movie. We are guessing you may not have any idea who we are talking about, since this pop princess is not known for acting, but for singing.

Why the major pop star didn't end up in The Help

To be fair, the star of which we speak has lent her voice to animated features — namely, The Smurfs and The Smurfs 2 (via IMDb). She also comes into our homes each week on a popular TV show, American Idol. Yes, we are referring to none other than Katy Perry. And yes, the mom of one almost made it into The Help.

Admittedly, the part was not a starring role, but Perry says she was disappointed things didn't end up working out.

"There was a time when I was going to be involved in The Help," Perry told Teen Vogue in 2012 (via The Hollywood Reporter). She went on to elaborate, "Just a small part, I wasn't going to be Emma Stone or anything, but I couldn't because the shooting schedule conflicted with the release of my record."

Perry went on to share, "I was upset about that. I knew it was going to be an important film. Not that I need to do drama first, but I do want to do something that makes a strong impression."

Now that so much controversy surrounds The Help, perhaps Perry is glad things didn't work out?
