Why Jared Kushner May Not Be As Close With Trump Anymore

It's been less than two months since the Trump administration moved out of the White House, and thanks to former President Donald Trump's permanent Twitter ban, all has been relatively quiet on the political front. However, when Trump made an appearance and gave a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Feb. 28, one of his former advisers and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, was noticeably absent from his side.

And after spending four years being one of Trump's go-to advisers, Kushner's absence is raising eyebrows in the political ring, and people everywhere are wondering why Ivanka Trump's husband is suddenly MIA after a full presidential term's length of undying allegiance to his father-in-law.

There's a simple answer for that, according to sources familiar with Kushner and his relationship with Trump. "Right now, he's just checked out of politics," one source alleged (via CNN). However, while Kushner being checked out of politics for the time being makes sense — given the political whiplash America has experienced over the past four years — other sources allege that there's more to it than that.

Jared Kushner could simply be spending some quality time with his family

Kushner and wife Ivanka were spotted working out together in Miami on Feb. 27 (via Page Six) — just one day before Trump's speech at the CPAC, in which he repeated election fraud lies and more falsehoods to a crowd of his loyal supporters (via USA Today).

While it makes total sense that Kushner is retreating from the public eye to focus on his family, there seems to be some underlying bad blood between the former president and Kushner. According to CNN, sources close to Trump reportedly say that the reality television personality is angry with Kushner over his 2020 election loss, and blames his son-in-law for not getting reelected.

Another source who spoke to the outlet about the Kushner-Trump drama said that while Kushner isn't looking to get out of politics completely, he may just be trying to distance himself from Trump — but not the Republican party itself. "He is trying to be someone you would go to on the Republican side to put a deal together," the source said. Adding, "The drama of politics wore him down. Eventually, Trump wears everyone down."
