Camilla, Duchess Of Cornwall Opens Up About Her Grandchildren

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall has a relatable favorite activity to share with her grandchildren: reading. "I read to my children and now I read to my grandchildren," Camilla said in a video posted to her Reading Room Instagram account. "I love it. I read to them when they were absolutely tiny. And they've got older and older and older, and now they actually read to me!"

Per People, Camilla has a total of nine grandchildren. She has five grandchildren from her two children (from her first marriage to Andrew Parker Bowles) in addition to Prince William and Kate Middleton's three kids — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis — as well as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's son, Archie.

"The Easter holidays are a perfect time to enjoy reading with the children in your life," the caption of Camilla's Instagram video reads. It also told followers to look for the duchess' recommendations for her favorite children's books, coming in the next few weeks.

Camilla's charitable work also involves literacy

Getting kids excited about reading isn't just a personal mission for Camilla — she's also centered a great deal of her charitable work around the cause.

According to People, Camilla serves as royal patron for the charity organization Coram Beanstalk, which provides volunteers to help children struggling in school with their reading. "We equip people to help children switch onto reading, learn to read, and become confident, independent readers," says Coram Beanstalk's official website

"The difference it made to their lives," Camilla said of Coram Beanstalk, "I mean, it's so important, I think, to just read from an early age" (via People).

Camilla launched The Reading Room initiative in December 2020, after the public expressed enthusiasm when she recommended some of her favorite books to get through quarantine (via Town & Country). "Ernest Hemingway, famously, once said, 'There is no friend as loyal as a book.' In these challenging times when we are isolated from the ones we love, many of us are finding comfort in reading, to fire up our imaginations, to take us on journeys and to make us laugh," Camilla said in a statement (via People). "With that in mind here is a list of my dearest 'friends.'"
