Details On Kanye West's New Documentary

Kanye West's highly sought-after documentary is officially headed to Netflix.

According to a report shared by the New York Post on April 7, the streaming service reportedly paid a whopping $30 million for the 43-year-old rapper's life story, which has been documented for the past two decades by film directors Clarence "Coodie" Simmons and Chike Ozah – known jointly as Coodie & Chike – who worked with West during the early moments of his career and helped him create the concepts for his debut music videos, including "Through the Wire" and "Jesus Walks."

Although it was Simmons and Ozah who documented West's project, the outlet noted that Netflix acquired their footage from Time Studios. That said, West, who will not be part of the production process of the documentary, has given the two men the okay to move forward with Netflix, as well as access to the past 21 years of his life.

Following the alleged $30 million deal, a separate source shot down the number to Variety, stating this "is not an accurate figure." However, the insider failed to offer any addition information regarding how much Netflix paid for the project.

Kanye West's documentary will air as a multi-part series

According to the New York Post, the upcoming documentary about the newly-single Kanye West, who shares four children with Kim Kardashian, is set to air as a multi-part series and will be produced by Simmons and Ozah's Creative Control company, which is said to be an Emmy-winning subsidiary of Time. It was also noted that the series would chronicle a number of major events in the life of West, including his rise to fame, his relationship with his late mother, Donda West, and his devastated reaction to her untimely passing.

The documentary will also feature unseen home videos of his time growing up in Chicago, but there is no word yet on whether his pending divorce from the Keeping Up With the Kardashians cast member will be addressed.

Billboard was first to report the news, confirming the yet-to-be-named project will air sometime in 2021.
