Kid Cudi's SNL Appearance Is Turning Heads

Fans were delighted when rapper Kid Cudi appeared on Saturday Night Live over the weekend and paid tribute to music icon Kurt Cobain through some incredible fashion choices. As noted by Us Weekly, Cudi wore a dress that looked quite a bit like one the late Nirvana frontman once donned on a magazine cover. Cobain was known for flouting gender norms in fashion, once telling The Los Angeles Times, "Wearing a dress shows I can be as feminine as I want. I'm a heterosexual... big deal. But if I was a homosexual, it wouldn't matter either."

Cudi's revealed in a tweet that his dress was from designer Virgil Abloh. "Virgil designed the dress for me," he wrote. "I told him I wanted to show love to Kurt w a floral print sundress and this man made a masterpiece. Thank You."

Cudi also played homage to Cobain with a green cardigan that resembled one once worn by the singer, which he paired with a shirt commemorating the late SNL star Chris Farley.

Kid Cudi has long admired Kurt Cobain

Fans took to social media to praise the rapper's homage to the '90s icon. "If you're out here hating on Kid Cudi because he was wearing a dress, grow up and understand that it's not only an homage to Kurt Cobain but also him speaking loudly for everyone to be and love themselves for who they are," tweeted one SNL viewer. Another wrote, "Kid Cudi's clothing in both of his SNL performances tonight seemed to pay tribute to two people who struggled their whole lives with depression and who ultimately succumbed to suicide and drug abuse: Chris Farley and Kurt Cobain."

Cudi has long been a fan of Cobain, and even has a tattoo honoring him (via Billboard). "Kurt has always been an inspiration," Cudi once told GQ (via Alternative Press). "I try to use him as my muse whenever I can."
