Here's What Clint Eastwood Really Thinks About Donald Trump

Hollywood acting legend Clint Eastwood has never been one to shy away from airing his political opinions and has previously been open about his support of former President of the United States Donald Trump (via NME). However, in the run-up to the 2020 U.S. Presidential election, Eastwood appeared to pull his endorsement of Donald Trump in favor of the former mayor of New York City and Democratic candidate, Mike Bloomberg.

"The best thing we could do is just get Mike Bloomberg in there," Eastwood told the Wall Street Journal, adding that, although he does approve of "certain things" Trump has said and done, he would prefer the now former-President to conduct himself "in a more genteel way, without tweeting and calling people names. I would personally like for him to not bring himself to that level."

Speaking in 2016, the Academy Award-winner shared his thoughts on the secret to Trump's political success, claiming the former Apprentice host was "onto something" during his first Presidential campaign (via NBC News).

During an interview with Esquire, Eastwood said, "He's onto something, because secretly everybody's getting tired of political correctness, kissing up. That's the kiss-a** generation we're in right now." The actor went on to say the world is currently living in "a p***** generation" in which everybody is "walking on eggshells." Speaking to the publication, he continued, "We see people accusing people of being racist and all kinds of stuff. When I grew up, those things weren't called racist."

Per NME, the Million Dollar Baby star continued, "All these people that say, 'Oh, you can't do that, and you can't do this, and you can't say that.' I guess it's just the times ... What Trump is onto is he's just saying what's on his mind. And sometimes it's not so good. And sometimes it's ... I mean, I can understand where he's coming from, but I don't always agree with it."

However, despite speaking out in support of Donald Trump, Eastwood made clear back in 2016 that he hadn't endorsed one particular candidate (via The Hill). "I haven't talked to Trump. I haven't talked to anybody. He's said a lot of dumb things. So have all of them. Both sides," the actor commented.
