Inside Jameela Jamil's Relationship With Singer James Blake

When the strawberry-blond English singer and producer James Blake first crossed paths with Jameela Jamil, she hadn't yet landed the acting role on "The Good Place" as the snobbish and quick-witted Tahani.

By then, however, she had already made quite a name for herself across the pond. Her resume included teaching, modeling, fashion design, writing, disc jockeying, and — most notably — hosting and presenting. She made history in 2013 when she became the first woman to host the Official Chart in BBC's Radio 1's 60 years on air (via IMDb). Jamil made the cross-continental move to the U.S. in 2015 with the hope of pursuing a career in comedy writing. That was the year she was sent to audition the Michael Schur-produced NBC show that we'd later all become utterly obsessed with, despite the fact that she'd never acted before. It was also the year she became Instagram-official with her singer-songwriter beau.

In February of 2015, Jamil shared a loved-up snap of her and Blake on Instagram. In the caption, she wrote, "Birthday photobooth fun in LA." Since then, the couple has remained relatively lowkey, although they've made occasional appearances on each other's social media profiles. Eagle-eyed followers may have noticed that on Jamil's celebratory post noting their one-year anniversary, the date was December 2015, meaning that they officially got together around that time in 2014. And as of writing, their sweet love story has been enfolding every since.

James credits Jameela for his album's existence

Although James Blake has a number of musical awards under his belt (via IMDb), he doesn't take all the credit for his success. Rather, he's confessed on numerous occasions that Jameela Jamil served as the muse that made his critically-acclaimed 2019 album, "Assume Form," come to life, per Bustle. Upon the album's release, he penned a tweet to his girlfriend, saying, "To @jameelajamil I love you and you are the reason this album exists, but now everyone else has it, so I'll see you at home in 30 mins and we can talk s*** about everyone."

He also raved about his girlfriend to Dazed, saying, "It feels good now to just be able to tell people how I feel. I think it's because I met my girlfriend, and there was no room for pretense. She speaks her mind. It was like, 'Tell me how you feel. Tell me what you're thinking.' In my everyday life, I wasn't being encouraged to sit behind metaphor or sit behind long silences or be in a mood without explaining what it's about."

Being the bold, encouraging, and outspoken activist that she is, Jamil inspires us, too. Hopefully, the entertainment power couple will be able to grace red carpets together soon, because we can't seem to get enough of them.
