President Biden's Recent Comment About The Capitol Riots Has Twitter Divided

When President Joe Biden addressed Congress in Wednesday night's speech, he made many claims that may have had people divided. But one is making huge waves on Twitter. Biden opened his address noting he "inherited a nation in crisis" (via USA Today). The President went on to detail, "The worst pandemic in a century. The worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. The worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War."

It is the last point that has social media talking (via New York Post). "January 6 was worse than 9/11?" asked journalist Glenn Greenwald. He went on to list other dates that many Americans will never forget. "Or Pearl Harbor?" he tweeted, adding, "Or the Oklahoma City bombing?"

But other Twitter users supported Biden's notion, with TV personality and author Michael Beschloss opining, "Joe Biden is absolutely correct in saying tonight that January 6 was 'the worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War.'"

They were not the only voices speaking out in support of and against President Biden's statement.

The response to President Biden's comment about the Capitol riots has emotions running high

Dinesh D'Souza, a conservative writer, tweeted in response to President Biden's assessment of the Capitol riots, "Surprisingly, the room did not break into uncontrolled laughter at this ridiculous claim" (via New York Post).

Another irrate Twitter user commented in response to D'Souza's tweet, "I guess he conveniently forgot about 9/11. What a joke." Another tweeted, "Worst attack on our democracy was the election of this guy."

Meanwhile, this tweet stood out among those upset by Biden's classification of the riots, with an individual asking @POTUS, "I dare you to ask the survivors and family members of lost ones of 9/11 if they think that the January 6 Capitol breach was the 'worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War.'"

On the other side of the issue were comments like this one: "Real patriots knew that January 6th was the 'worst attack on democracy since Civil War.' Hearing President Biden say it was gold." Another Twitter user seconded that notion, commenting, "The January 6th Capitol riots were the worst attack on democracy since the Civil War! No doubt about it."
