What We Know About Sydney Sweeney

Born September 12, 1997, Sydney Sweeney rose to stardom within the past few years for her powerful yet complicated roles in TV. In 2018, she gained recurring roles such as Eden Spencer in "The Handmaid's Tale" and Alice in "Sharp Objects," (via IMDb).

Not one year later, she gained a leading role in the HBO series, "Euphoria," as Cassie Howard, an ice skating teen who deals with coercion and slut-shaming. She's also appeared in films such as "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood," "Big Time Adolescence," and starring in the film, "Nocturne." As of 2021, she's attached to four upcoming projects (via IMDb).

Most recently, she made headlines when she went on her Instagram Live on May 8, 2021. During the Live, Sweeney discussed how words hurt and that people need to think about what they say amid negative comments being made about her body on Twitter. "Apparently I am trending on Twitter right now for being ugly," she said, per NME. "And I would never actually do this, like ever. But I think it's really important for people to see how words actually affect people." Along with being both beautiful and blunt, there's a lot more to learn about the upcoming Hollywood starlet.

Sydney's a true business woman on the inside

It's well known that Sydney Sweeney got into acting pretty young, at the mere age of 12. However, her parents were super hesitant about letting her start her career at such an early age. She even spoke on getting the acting bug early, in an interview with Marie Claire.

"There was no entertainment industry at all in Spokane, Washington, where I was raised," she explained. "When I was twelve, this movie came to town randomly, and I begged my parents to let me audition." And she sealed the deal by making a comprehensive five-year business plan. Thus, she gained a role in the indie film, "ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction," (via IMDb).

As of writing, she obtained her degree in entrepreneurship from UCLA after just three years. In an interview with "MTV," Sweeney admitted that she likes to be able to read every contract she comes across to protect herself, (via The Things), which is the smartest thing a rising star can do.

She's an insanely skilled MMA fighter

At the age of 14, Sydney Sweeney got into mixed martial arts, or MMA, fighting and grappling. She was trained by Rhonda Rousey's sensei, one of which being legendary MMA instructor, Gene LeBell, as she stated in an interview. She competed throughout her high school years, and at the age of 18, won first place in a competition where it was all boys in a weight class above her, (via The Things). So seriously, don't mess with her. She even confesses in the same interview, "I love fighting, it's so much fun."

In another interview with Marie Claire, Sweeney went on to discuss what the boys probably thought in one of her competitions. "Those guys were probably saying, 'Oh, we didn't want to hurt her,' but they were definitely trying. Everyone broke a sweat!" While we haven't seen her in a fighting scene on the screen yet, chances are it'll be awesome.

Her first big role was in the show, Everything Sucks

Sydney Sweeney shot into mainstream media in 2018, after her first big role as Emaline in the Netflix series, "Everything Sucks!"

The show is based around a high school in Oregon during the '90s, where a group of kids in the A/V department make a film with a group of kids in the drama club. She plays acting student, Emaline Addario, who questions her sexuality throughout (via IMDb).

The show was short-lived, however, and only lasted one season due to low viewer count and controversy. Sweeney's character is supposed to be 16, and the person she kisses, Peyton Kennedy's character Kate, is 14. Though in real life, Sweeney was 20 and Kennedy was 14. So, you can assume that people were pretty outraged, (via Girlfriend). However, she soon got roles in "Euphoria," "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood," and "Sharp Objects," (via IMDB).
