The Heartbreaking Death Of Dawson's Creek Writer Heidi Ferrer

The late 1990s teen drama "Dawson's Creek" is still held close to the hearts of many, and the announcement that one of the show's original writers, Heidi Ferrer, has died will come as sad news to fans of the hit series. As People reported, show writer Ferrer died by suicide at the age of 50 in May 2021, following a year-long battle with COVID-19.

In an emotional tribute post, Ferrer's husband, Nick Guthe, shared a picture of his late wife holding a baby, along with a heartfelt caption that read, "My beautiful angel, Heidi, passed over tonight after a 13 month battle with Long Haul Covid. She was an amazing mother. She fought this insidious disease with the same ferocity she lived with. I love you forever and I'll see you down the road," via Twitter

In a statement to TMZ, Guthe revealed that Heidi first contracted COVID-19 in April 2020. After her symptoms continued to get worse each month, Ferrer wound up bedridden and began suffering from severe fatigue and neurological tremors.

Heidi Ferrer opened up about her illness in a blog post

Writing in her Girl to Mom blog in September 2020, Heidi Ferrer opened up about the ongoing difficulties she faced during her illness, revealing that she couldn't envision any long term quality of life. "In my darkest moments, I told my husband that if I didn't get better, I did not want to live like this. I wasn't suicidal, I just couldn't see any quality of life long term and there was no end in sight," she wrote.

According to Variety, Ferrer began writing for hit television shows including "Dawson's Creek" and "Wasteland" back in the late 1990s. Later in her career, she began writing scripts, pitching screenplays, and completing re-writes for major movie and television studios. 

She is survived by her mother, Nancy Gilmore, her two sisters, her husband Nick Guthe, and her 13-year-old son, Bexon.
