How Simone Biles Really Feels About Her First Day Of Olympic Competition

The Tokyo Olympics are well underway, and people across the globe have been tuning in during all hours of the day and night to catch athletes from around the world representing their country in sports like swimming, volleyball, soccer, and of course, gymnastics.

"I'm going to go out there and represent the U.S.A., represent World Champions Centre, and represent Black and brown girls over the world," Simone Biles, who has been dubbed one of the best gymnasts of all time, said in a phone interview with The New York Times shortly before departing for the summer Games. "At the end of the day, I'm not representing U.S.A. Gymnastics," she added, referring to the Larry Nassar/USA Gymnastics sexual abuse scandal that made headlines across the globe in 2016. Biles is the only Nassar survivor (who has come forward publicly) currently competing in the Olympics.

While fans were eager to watch Biles dominate during the preliminary rounds in her respective events, the 24-year-old superstar athlete had a bit of trouble with some of her routines, stepping off the mat during her floor exercise and again on the vault (via HuffPost). Shortly after her events, the four-time gold medalist took to social media to address her performance during the first day of Olympic competition, penning a heartfelt, honest post on her Instagram page.

Simone Biles addressed her first day performance on social media

Taking to Instagram to issue a statement about her performance on the first day of Olympic competition, Simone Biles opened up about how she really felt during her events. "It wasn't an easy day or my best but I got through it. I truly do feel like I have the weight of the world on my shoulders at times," Biles wrote (via People). "I know I brush it off and make it seem like pressure doesn't affect me but damn sometimes it's hard hahaha! The Olympics is no joke! BUT I'm happy my family was able to be with me virtually [heart] they mean the world to me!"

Fans of the young athlete rushed to the comment section of her post to issue kind words of their own, with one writing, "Don't worry about the world and their expectations on who you should be and how you should perform. Focus on yourself and your teammates and everything will fall in line [smiley face] Control the controllable!!"

Another fan gushed about Biles' impressive athletic abilities, writing onĀ Twitter, "Simone Biles is the greatest athlete in any sport the world has ever seen. She's simply a cut above the competition. Biles is w/o peer in gymnastics. She's a once in a millennium athlete & woman. No one can compare to her athletic prowess. No man even comes close to her skills."
