According to TMZ, the couple's relationship first began when Hadid reportedly "reached out" to Dua for a date in June 2019. Later that same month, she was spotted attending Anwar's 20th birthday party and, as The Sun reported, the pair had already been on a "string of dates" in and around Malibu prior to his birthday event.
Per Elle, rumors that the pair were dating went into overdrive after they were seen sharing a kiss at the British Summer Time Music Festival in London in August 2019, and later that month, Dua and Anwar went Instagram-official, prompting Hadid's sister, Gigi, to comment "Cuteness" on the post in question.

According to The Sun, Anwar Hadid and Dua Lipa moved into a New York apartment together in September 2019 after just a few months of dating. Speaking at the time, a source explained that the move "made sense for them" because they are "spending all of their time together." Per Elle, the couple made their red carpet debut at the 44th annual American Music Awards in November 2019.
In June 2020, Hadid and Lipa celebrated their one-year anniversary as a couple. Writing on Instagram, the "Levitating" hitmaker uploaded a series of snapshots of their time together, with an accompanying caption that read, "Nothing sweeter than 365 days joint at the hip with you."
A couple of months later, the pair decided to expand their family to three when they announced they had adopted a dog together in July 2020. Taking to Instagram, Dua wrote, "our tiny bestfriend Dexter!!! thank you @thelabellefoundation HE'S PERFECT."
