Here's What Reese Witherspoon Studied In School

For decades, Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon has captivated audiences with her on-screen portrayals of complex female characters and storylines. The actress made her big screen debut at the age of 15, starring in the critically acclaim film "The Man on the Moon." Years later, Witherspoon became a household name in the early 2000s when she portrayed the blonde bombshell, Elle Woods, who redefined the term brains and beauty in "Legally Blonde." Since then, the actress' career skyrocketing, accumulating numerous awards and praise in Hollywood. According to Variety, Witherspoon partnered with Bruna Papandre and Pacific Standard to create a production company that focuses on creating "dynamic roles for women."

"Bruna and I really connect through our love of books and reading," Witherspoon tells Variety. "And I think to encourage that in places where women don't have the same opportunities is extraordinary."

Unlike Elle Woods, Witherspoon did not attend Harvard, but the southern belle did pursue higher education.

The following year, the rising star dropped out of school to pursue her budding acting career. The decision devastated her parents, Witherspoon shares in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres.

"Oh, my mom was so mad at me that I dropped out of college because she wanted me to be a doctor, specifically a plastic surgeon," Witherspoon tells DeGeneres (via Newsweek). My dad was an ear, nose, and throat surgeon, but my mom was just really determined for me to be a plastic surgeon."

"And she was mad about it for probably ten years," she adds. "And then I bought her a house, so she got over it. At some point, it turned into a better deal for Betty."

Over a decade later, the actress revisited her college campus and even stopped by her old dorm room. "Surprise!" The actress wrote on Instagram. "While revisiting @Standard, I popped by my old dorm room... and met its newest tenant, Caitlyn! She was so nice; she even welcomed me in!"
