The Heartwarming Part Alicia Silverstone Played In This Celeb Wedding
Alicia Silverstone first made a name for herself as the bubbly star of "Clueless," but in recent years, she's shown fans a far more serious side. The actress is a passionate advocate for animal rights and veganism (via The Guardian) and has a line of organic multivitamins and other health supplements under the label myKind Organics.
Recently, she took on yet another role close to her heart: She officiated at the September 4 wedding of Garrett Clayton and Blake Knight. Silverstone and Clayton have known each other since starring together in the biographical film "King Cobra" (via Out). It was the beginning of Clayton's journey to live his personal truth. Best known for playing teen heartthrob roles such as Tanner in the "Teen Beach Movie" series and Link Larkin in "Hairspray Live!", the actor had to keep his sexuality under wraps for fear of being shut out of roles. "I'm sorry that I went through it. I had a huge identity crisis, because I was fine with who I was and then I thought who I was, was bad," he once told J-14. In 2018, Clayton finally came out as gay, and he and Knight announced their engagement shortly after.
The wedding took place in the garden of an estate owned by Disney, complete with a Snow White wishing well (via People). Family and friends – 160 in total – watched as Silverstone led the ceremony and pronounced them legally wed. "She took it very seriously," Clayton revealed.

In California, anyone can officiate a wedding if they're ordained through an IRS-approved officiant organization such as American Marriage Ministries (AMM) or Universal Life Church. The online process is quick and legal, and (most likely) Alicia Silverstone went through it in order to lead the Clayton-Knight nuptials. As many fans may know, the actress was raised Jewish, however, anyone of any faith can become ordained through these channels. The officiant's major legal responsibility is to make sure the couple's marriage license hasn't expired (they're good for 90 days), then fill out the "officiant" portion, sign it, and return it to the County Clerk or Recorder within 10 days of the wedding (via AMM).
As of this writing, no further details about Silverstone's part in the wedding (such as a speech) have been released. But of course, she would have been an honored guest at the reception, which featured fun yard games, three signature cocktails, and a "picnic-style meal" that allowed for social distancing and food safety. Presumably, some vegan options were available for Silverstone and other guests with dietary preferences.
One can also safely assume that Silverstone was a much more pleasant guest than she was in "Sister of the Groom." In that 2020 film, the actress played a woman, regretting her life choices, who resents her brother's upcoming marriage to a younger woman. Her outrageous behavior is so over-the-top that the Chicago Sun-Times film critic dubbed the movie "Siz-Zilla Wrecks the Wedding."
