Buckley, who was 72, worked as a fashion journalist, launching his career at New York Magazine in 1979. He also wrote for Women's Wear Daily and Vanity Fair, eventually becoming the European editor of Mirabella magazine, contributing editor at Italian Vogue, and the editor-in-chief of Vogue Hommes International. He met Ford in 1986 at a fashion show, with the designer calling it "love at first sight." "Our eyes locked and within a month we were living together," Ford recalled. "We have been together ever since."
The couple welcomed their son, Alexander John Buckley Ford (who goes by Jack), in 2012 (via The Hollywood Reporter), and then married two years later. "Richard, yes, 27 years, and we're now married, which is nice," Ford said (via People). "I know that it was just made legal in the U.K., which is great. We were married in the States."
