Meet Sofia Ghavami, A New Pro This Season On DWTS

Season 30 of "Dancing with the Stars" has been filled with both monumental moments and unprecedented challenges. Teen sensation JoJo Siwa made history this season as the first contestant to compete with a same-sex partner (via Today), and beloved Peloton instructor Cody Rigsby became the first contestant to perform his routine virtually after he contracted a breakthrough case of COVID-19 along with his partner, Cheryl Burke (via TVLine). In addition to the new developments taking place on screen, there have been a few changes backstage as well.

This season, "DWTS" welcomed two new pros to the cast (via Entertainment Tonight). Both Sofia Ghavami and Ezra Sosa will be featured throughout the couples' performances and will be prepared to step in if a pro is unable to compete. Though Ghavami is new to the world of "DWTS," she is a very experienced performer. Here's everything we know about the rising star.

Sofia Ghavami has a long history as a dancer

Before Sofia Ghavami made her "Dancing with the Stars" debut on the Season 30 premiere, she competed on Season 16 of the popular series "So You Think You Can Dance" (via Hollywood Life). Though Ghavami didn't win, she made it to the Top Ten girls. The Miami native also competed as a pro on the Univision series "Mira Quién Baila."

Aside from her professional dancing career, Ghavami has acted in a few films. She appeared in a promo for the Fox series "Paradise Hotel," played a dance instructor on the series "Tacoma FD," and starred in two short films (via IMDb).

In addition to her onscreen work, Ghavami has toured the United States with "DWTS" pros Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Valentin Chmerkovskiy, and Peta Murgatroyd for the MVP Confidential tour (via ET Online). Though she's well versed in a variety of dance styles, the performer enjoys Latin ballroom the most.
