Meet Your Makers Showdown Season 1: Release Date, Cast, And New Details
During the pandemic, many people turned to streaming services and on-demand TV shows while they were quarantined at home. Platforms like Netflix and Hulu have huge audiences; 78% of U.S. consumers have at least one streaming service they pay for, according to Statista. While we pick and choose which shows and platforms have us in a chokehold, each media entity is on production overdrive.
Discovery+ came to screens in 2021, and it already has 20 million paid subscribers, per Variety. With shows like "Halloween Wars," Guy Fieri's cooking championships, and "Toddlers & Tiaras," the service clearly know how reality TV competitions work. The newest addition to the competition-style reality roster will be "Meet Your Makers Showdown," a contest between world-class artisans that amounts to a brilliant showcase of creativity and skills, per The Futon Critic.
If you're someone who can appreciate the arts (and crafts), read on to learn more about the new series.
When does Meet Your Makers Showdown Season 1 come out?
The executives at Discovery work fast, but their production team works faster. "Meet Your Makers Showdown" was greenlit just a few months into 2021, one of the first new shows on Discovery+. The first season of the show will hit the streaming service on November 27, according to Pop Culture.
The production company for the show, Michael Levitt Productions, has worked on many other competition-style reality TV shows, including "Skin Wars" and "Wrap Battle." Discovery+ definitely knew what it was doing with the new series!
The show will have six episodes that deep-dive into the crafts the artisans work on, according to a press release (via The Futon Critic). The contestants are also described as "four of the world's best artisans," making it an interesting head-to-head battle for who could arguably be the world's best artisan. It's a pretty big decision to make, and the streaming platform has appointed its judges accordingly.
Who's in the cast of Meet Your Makers Showdown?
Discovery+ announced in October who fans can expect to see in "Meet Your Makers Showdown." Chrissy Metz, who stars as Kate in NBC's "This Is Us," will be switching streaming platform teams and coming on board as the host of "Meet Your Makers Showdown," per People. The Emmy-nominated star will be accompanied by Grammy Award-winner LeAnn Rimes as the head judge.
Both Metz and Rimes will judge competitors alongside Mark Montano, a designer and author who's written "The Big A** Craft Book," a bestselling series on DIY arts and crafts.
While the contestants are yet to be revealed, Mixed Media Girl on YouTube shared the trailer for the show, writing, "I have exciting news!!! I will be on a show on discovery+ called Meet Your Makers." That's huge news, especially for her 341,000 subscribers! It also means that the show will be spotlighting different kinds of artisans and art forms.
Artisans on Meet Your Makers Showdown could win $10,000
Jane Latman, President of HGTV, said in a press release (via The Futon Critic), "Meet Your Makers Showdown spotlights the nation's obsession with handcrafted goods as featured in the countless viral videos and tutorials exploding on social media." To channel the wide-ranging categories of interest, the six-part series includes contests in paper art, fluid painting, stained glass, polymer clay, candle making, and artisanal soap.
Chrissy Metz, who loves to scrapbook, said in the press release, "Crafting is bigger than ever and talented makers have turned it into a multi-billion dollar industry ... Each week, 'Meet Your Makers Showdown' spotlights a new trending craft and the artisans who pull out all the stops to create inspirational, one-of-a-kind masterpieces."
At the end of the series, the winner gets to take home $10,000 — a prize that could help with their own businesses. The stakes are high, and if you're into watching a celebration of the crafts, "Meet Your Makers Showdown" will be available to stream on Discovery+ on November 27.
