Where Is Dr. Mercy Odueyungbo Based Out Of?
The producers at TLC know we have a collective obsession with skin — and dermatologists touching them. The TV network cast the net wide with this genre of content, offering oozes and bruises in a variety of formats. The all-time favorite "Dr. Pimple Popper" gives audiences grossly satisfying pokes and prods, while "Save My Skin" does the same — but with a British accent. TLC keeps churning them out; clearly, audiences love them.
Earlier this year, the channel introduced another show featuring the intriguing skin cases at the private practice of "Dr. Mercy" (both the dermatologist's name and the title of the show). TLC's newest doctor is already extremely popular with her patients, making her stand out to channel executives.
"TLC is home to some of the best medical professionals in the world and we are always looking to add fresh, new faces to our outstanding roster of doctors ... Dr. Mercy's personable and compassionate approach stood out," Howard Lee, President of TLC Streaming and Network Originals said in a statement (via E!).
You can find Dr. Mercy Odueyungbo on Discovery+, but you can also visit her private practice IRL.
Dr. Mercy has multiple practices in Illinois
Dr. Mercy Odueyungbo didn't expect to get a call from TLC. According to E!, she was actually approached by the channel on Instagram in 2019 and she was convinced that it was a joke. However, after filming the pilot, she was offered the entire series! Dr. Mercy's empathetic approach to her patients was on view in the trailer. "If you come into the room to see me, you're automatically a family member," she said, as the camera pans to multiple patients crying from happiness. "The skin is a manifestation of what's going on internally," the dermatologist explained. "So, a lot of what we do in dermatology, it's not just the skin that you're treating, you're treating a person as a whole."
While Dr. Mercy made an impression on the channel, she's also very popular with her patients. She's currently based out of Chicago, Illinois, where she has two practices: one in Lombard, and the other in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, per Chicago Defender. According to Health Grades, she has 4.8 out of 5 stars from her patients. Her husband also manages two practices.
If you're in need of a (famous) dermatologist, fly to Illinois. But if you just want to watch the skillful removal of cysts and pimples, check out "Dr. Mercy" on TLC.
