The Scary Reason Jon Gosselin Ended Up In The Hospital

Jon Gosselin has been put through the wringer more than once, and in front of the nation no less. Per People, the former reality star was first introduced to us, alongside then-wife Kate Gosselin and their eight children, on hit TLC show "Jon & Kate Plus 8." The couple divorced in 2009, after a decade of marriage, with cheating rumors swirling. Kate retained primary custody of the kids, though Collin and Hannah live with Jon. Although he has taken a step back from the limelight in recent years, Jon appeared on "The Dr. Oz Show" in 2019, to briefly discuss the relationship that made him famous.

Opining on whether reality TV broke him and Kate up, Jon admitted, "It's hard to live in a hypothetical, but I think eventually, because of personality, it would have fizzled out anyway." He added, "First of all, I got married at 22 years old, and you just don't know."

Jon and Kate continue to fight each other on social media, and in the press, over the proper parenting of their children, who also frequently weigh in on the discourse too. Considering how much the former reality star has had to deal with in his personal life, being rushed to the hospital after a terrifying encounter might have seemed less frightening than it would have been if he led a more peaceful life.

Jon Gosselin was bitten by a spider

Former reality star Jon Gosselin was rushed to hospital after waking up in "excruciating pain" and quickly realizing he'd been bitten by a brown recluse spider. Gosselin told The Sun his leg swelled up to twice its normal size. "I was DJ-ing for the weekend in Philadelphia and I finally felt free," Gosselin shared. "It was my first real single weekend. I was totally ready to open up and meet new people and start fresh. But I woke after a night of music and fun and went to stand up only to fall back down on the bed." The former reality star admitted it'd been a tough year, following his public breakup from Colleen Conrad and a battle with COVID.

According to Mayo Clinic, plenty of spider bites are harmless but brown recluses are a particularly dangerous breed since their venom is necrotic, meaning immediate medical attention is required after being bitten. Symptoms typically include increasing pain, fever, body aches, and an open wound with a pale center, ringed in red, that turns darker over time. Gosselin acknowledged it "kind of looked like a cigarette burn, but really raised." Thankfully, the "Jon & Kate Plus 8" star is doing better following his hospital stint, confirming, "It's finally healing after a week and the swelling has improved and the pain is just where the bite is rather than my entire leg."

Gosselin quipped, "Let's face it, it hasn't been my year."
