The Masked Singer Season 7 - Here's What We Can Tell Fans So Far

"The Masked Singer" has become one of fans' favorite guilty-pleasure TV shows. The series, which airs on Fox, features a group of celebrities who face off against one another in a singing competition.

However, there's a huge twist. All of their famous faces are kept hidden by elaborate costumes. Every aspect of the star's identity is hidden by their costumes, but each week, new hints are given as the panelists and viewers at home try to figure out which celebs are under the mask, per TV Series Finale.

Past winners of the show have included the likes of rapper T-Pain, who appeared in a monster costume; actor and TV host Wayne Brady, who dressed as a fox; and reality star Kandi Burruss, who wore a night angel costume (via Gold Derby).

In Season 4, country singer LeAnn Rimes took home the trophy dressed in a sun costume, and Season 5 saw singer Nick Lachey crowned champion in a piglet costume.

As Season 6 of "The Masked Singer" comes to a close, fans are obviously wondering about the status of Season 7. Here's what we know.

The Masked Singer has yet to be renewed for Season 7

"The Masked Singer" Season 6 began airing in September 2021, although there is often more than one season per year.

Currently, Fox has not announced whether the singing competition series will return for Season 7 on the network. However, if the show is renewed, the newest season could begin airing in early 2022 or as late as fall 2022, per The Cinemaholic.

Meanwhile, Season 6 of "The Masked Singer" dropped in the ratings, averaging a 0.95 rating in the key 18-49 demographic with 4.43 million viewers.

While those numbers are less than the show has brought in during previous seasons, the series remains one of the network's most-watched programs, which could be good news when it comes time to make a decision about renewing the show.

The outlet suggests that the dip in the ratings could also change the way that the show is released, perhaps limiting it to just one season a year instead of two.

The host and judges will likely be back for Season 7

Since "The Masked Singer" first debuted on Fox, the core cast has remained the same. Nick Cannon has hosted all six seasons of the series, while fan-favorite panelists Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke, and Ken Jeong have given their insights about whom they believe the celebrities behind the costumes are, per Parade

McCarthy often shares her well-thought-out conclusions with her co-stars and viewers and boasts numerous correct guesses. In the past, she has won the coveted Golden Ear trophy, awarded to the judge who has tallied the most correct guesses during the season (via Gold Derby).

As for the contestants who could grace the stage during Season 7 of "The Masked Singer," it seems that no one is off-limits. There has been a variety of celebs, including actors, musicians, athletes, and reality stars, who have competed on the show, and it seems that Season 7 would be no different.

How The Masked Singer is shaking things up

"The Masked Singer" opted to make a big change for Season 6 by introducing the Take It Off Buzzer, per Cinema Blend. The feature allowed any member of the judges' panel to hit the buzzer and make their guess about a contestant's identity at any time.

If the judge is correct with the guess, the star would be forced to unmask right then and there and be eliminated from the competition. It remains to be seen if the feature, or any new features, would continue into Season 7. However, it does appear that the series is looking to shake things up a bit.

In addition, Season 6 of the show also introduced an animated helper, Miss Masky, who teased fans about winning tickets to a future taping of the show (via Gizmo Story). This clue likely hints that "The Masked Singer" will return for Season 7 sometime in 2022. However, nothing is official at this moment.
