The Heartbreaking Death Of 90 Day Fiance Star Jason Hitch

On Tuesday night, former "90 Day Fiancé" reality television star Jason Hitch died of complications from COVID-19 in the ICU of a Florida hospital. Hitch's sister, Shannon, told TMZ that the 45-year-old was not vaccinated against COVID-19 at the time of his death. He also did not have any pre-existing medical conditions that could have contributed to his death. The reality star's sister also told TMZ that his family was able to hold his hand and be with him just before he died.

Hitch appeared in the second season of "90 Day Fiancé" as the fiancé and, eventually, the husband of Cássia Tavares, a Brazilian woman who was not prepared for the frugal nature of Hitch's life in Spring Hill, Florida. They eventually got a divorce in 2018 and parted ways for good, according to People. After learning of her ex-husband's death, Tavares posted an emotional story to her Instagram. "It's always sad when someone you spent part of your life with stops breathing," Tavares said in an Instagram story, per E! News. "I guess one could never be prepared for that. I wasn't, today. When I started receiving messages, I thought it was a joke. I'm shocked. My condolences to his family and friends. Rest in Peace, Jason."

Hitch and Tavares had a fairly volatile relationship

Viewers first met Jason Hitch and Brazilian Cássia Tavares in the second season of "90 Day Fiancé," a reality television show that follows couples going through the K-1 Visa process in the United States. Even prior to appearing on the show and Tavares moving to Florida to be with Hitch, the pair experienced many issues within their relationship. Despite the fact that Hitch promised to take her on shopping sprees, Tavaras had to face Hitch's incredibly frugal ways and the fact that he still lived with his father. As The Ashley's Reality Roundup reported, Tavares' constant jealousy of any other women around Hitch did not help preserve the integrity of their relationship either.

In 2018, Hitch was arrested after Tavares told police officers that her husband had been physically rough with her during an argument, according to Screen Rant. Tavares eventually dropped the charges. Before officially getting divorced, Hitch tried to win back Tavares with a trip to Melbourne. "I tried everything last year to save whatever we thought we had," Hitch told Starcasm in January 2018. "Around her birthday I took her to Melbourne, Florida for an Army Couples retreat ... but nothing worked."

Despite divorcing, the pair remained friends until Hitch's untimely death on Tuesday.
