Candace Owens Shares Harsh Words For Donald Trump About Vaccines
As COVID-19 cases skyrocket across the nation due to the surge of the highly contagious Omicron variant, the Biden administration continues to urge all Americans 16 years of age and up (or even younger with co-morbidities) to get a booster shot as their best protection against both contracting the virus and severe illness if a breakthrough infection occurs, according to ABC News.
Surprisingly, former President Donald Trump has been urging the same thing of his supporters during the 2021 holiday season and has refused to back down from his stance that vaccines work despite the fact that he's been booed while giving speeches and criticized by conservative commentators. During a speaking tour with former Fox New host, Bill O'Reilly, Trump told the audience that he had received the COVID booster as soon as he could, while touting the efficacy of the vaccines that were developed under his administration.
"Look, we did something that was historic, we saved tens of millions of lives worldwide. We, together, all of us, not me," he said (via CNN). "Take credit for it. Take credit for it. It's great. What we've done is historic. Don't let them take it away. Don't take it away from ourselves."
Donald Trump continues to encourage vaccination with Candace Owens
Despite the reaction from his supporters, Donald Trump didn't back away from his stance that the Americans should be vaccinated and boosted and doubled down during an interview with conservative commentator Candace Owens on December 22.
When Owens questioned Trump on whether the vaccines actually work considering more people have died in 2021 from COVID-19 under the Joe Biden administration than they did in 2020 when Trump was still president, Trump stuck to his guns on how the vaccines do work and placed the blame for COVID still surging on the people who refuse to get vaccinated.
"The vaccine worked. But some people aren't taking it," Trump told Owens (via Axios). "The ones that get very sick and go to the hospital are the ones that don't take the vaccine. But it's still their choice, and if you take the vaccine, you're protected. Look, the results of the vaccine are very good, and if you do get it, it's a very minor form. People aren't dying when they take the vaccine."
Candace Owens offers her take on Trump's pro-vaccine stance
When Donald Trump insisted to Candace Owens during a sit-down interview from Mar-a-Lago that the COVID-19 vaccines are "one of the greatest achievements of mankind" (via Axios), Owens felt the need to set the record straight — or at least the record on how she sees it by doing her own research into vaccines, something she doesn't feel Trump is familiar with — so she took to Instagram to do so.
"Everything that [Trump's generation] read in a newspaper that was pitched to them that they believe that that was a reality," Owens said in a December 23 Instagram video. "And one of those things was, you know, this push for vaccines and believing that people were going to die without vaccines. And so, I believe that his support of the vaccine is genuine and it's not based on any corruption at all."
Despite Trump spending his entire presidency calling mainstream media "fake news," Owens believes that's the only place the former president gets his information from. "Believe it or not, I do not believe that Trump reads or partakes in any other news sources," Owens said. "I don't believe that Trump is on the internet or that he necessarily uses the web to try to find obscure websites. I think that he just relies on typical mainstream sources. So, I don't think that there's anything evil going on there."
