Ryan Reynolds' Farewell To Betty White Will Bring You To Tears

The love of Betty White's life was her husband, Allen Ludden. ""The secret to our marriage was enthusiasm," White said, per People. "When I knew Allen was coming home, I would freshen my makeup and put on a new blouse." After his death, she decided never to marry again. "I had the love of my life. If you've had the best, who needs the rest?" she told Anderson Cooper (via Cheat Sheet).

That was bad news for actor Ryan Reynolds. White and Reynolds both starred in the 2009 film "The Proposal," and apparently they hit it off. He frequently joked that White was his "ex-girlfriend," according to People. The magazine recently asked White about her relationship with Reynolds. Unfortunately for him, a different celebrity crush had caught the 99-year-old's eye. "I've heard Ryan can't get over his thing for me," she said, "but Robert Redford is The One."

At least Reynolds could find comfort in his wife of almost 10 years, Blake Lively (via Us Weekly).

Ryan Reynolds honored Betty White in a heartfelt post

Sadly, Betty White died just weeks before her 100th birthday, per TMZ. Her legions of fans have been sharing memories and condolences on social media since the news broke. Slowly, White's personal friends have begun sharing their own messages about the television legends.

Ryan Reynolds took to Instagram to share his thoughts, alongside a picture of White cheerfully giving two thumbs up. "The world looks different now," Reynolds wrote in the heartfelt post. "She was great at defying expectation. She managed to grow very old and somehow, not old enough. We'll miss you, Betty. Now you know the secret."

Valerie Bertinelli, White's costar on "Hot in Cleveland," also shared a tribute to the TV legend. "Rest in peace, sweet Betty. My God, how bright heaven must be right now," Bertinelli tweeted.

Among the emotional messages from costars, Seth Meyers chose to tweet a more lighthearted memory of White. "RIP Betty White, the only SNL host I ever saw get a standing ovation at the after party. A party at which she ordered a vodka and a hotdog and stayed til the bitter end," he tweeted.
