Here's What Happened To Frogmore Cottage After Meghan And Harry Left

The word cottage generally brings to mind a small little house; however, for the British Royal Family, it's a little different. Frogmore Cottage is the name of what was a 10-bedroom house set on the Frogmore Estate in Windsor that also includes Frogmore House where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took their engagement pics and hosted their wedding reception (per Harper's Bazaar). A few minutes drive away from Windsor Castle, Frogmore Cottage was where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and baby Archie lived before the couple stepped back from royal duties (per Town & Country).

They had the place renovated before they moved in. It was previously split into five different apartments, and it got updated to be a single family residence at a cost of over $3 million. "The building was returned to a single residence, and outdated infrastructure was replaced to guarantee the long-term future of the property," Sir Michael Stevens, Keeper of the Privy Purse explained (via ABC News).

Since stepping back as working royals in 2020, according to People, Prince Harry and Markle have paid back the amount of taxpayer money that was spent on refurbishing Frogmore Cottage. And the cottage has a new tenant.

Princess Eugenie now call Frogmore Cottage home

Now that Harry and Meghan are living in California, Frogmore Cottage is home to Queen Elizabeth's granddaughter Princess Eugenie, her husband Jack Brooksbank, and their 11-month-old baby August Philip.

The family has lived in the cottage since November 2020, and from a few of Eugenie's Instagram posts, we have been able to get a few glimpses as to how royalty decorates. They've gone for neutral creams and whites throughout, and the living room's got a comfy looking white couch with large boho tassel cushions.

The family also seem to enjoy the gardens of the Frogmore Estate, with pictures of baby August amidst daffodils. Queen Elizabeth is also a fan of the Frogmore Estate gardens, and according to Architectural Digest, the Queen goes on walks there "unannounced. She has told the gardeners that this is her favorite garden to walk in; if they find a few freshly pulled-up weeds on a bench — a gentle hint — they'll know she's been there."

While Princess Eugenie is living at Frogmore Cottage now, it's still the official U.K. residence of Harry and Meghan. According to the Sussex Royal website: "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will continue to use Frogmore Cottage — with the permission of Her Majesty The Queen — as their official residence as they continue to support the Monarchy, and so that their family will always have a place to call home in the United Kingdom."
