The Biggest Unresolved Plotlines In Days Of Our Lives

"Days of Our Lives” has been on the air for decades, and after more than 55 years there are bound to be a few mysteries that have yet to be solved. Whether the storylines were simply thrown away, forgotten about, or not popular among fans, it seems that long time viewers remember things very well, and they want some answer to those burning questions (via Soap Central).

Characters have come and gone without any mention of their current situations or whereabouts, family members have unexplainably been lost or killed off without a second thought. There are so many unanswered questions regarding the goings-on in Salem that it would be nearly impossible to figure it all out. However, there are a few pressing mysteries that get under fans' skin, and they just can't seem to let go of them.

So, let's take a look at some of the most controversial and mysterious unresolved plotlines in the history of "DOOL."

Where in the world is Peter Blake?

One of the biggest mysteries in the "Days of Our Lives" universe is what happened to Peter Blake (Jason Brooks). Peter first appeared in Salem in 1993 in order to warn his sister, Kristen, to keep her distance from John Black. Later, Stefano joined up with Peter and plotted to have John Black killed, but the plan didn't work. However, Peter and Kristen both became close with Stefano, who adopted them and named them to the family, per Soap Central.

Peter decided to hang around Salem when he fell in love with Jennifer Horton. The two had a rocky relationship and when Jennifer decided she wanted to be with Jack, things went from bad to worse. Peter ended up in jail with Stefano refusing to get him out.

According to Daily Soap Dish, Peter later broke out of prison and went underground where he hasn't been seen or heard from in years. In 2020, there were rumors that "DOOL" could recast the character of Peter and bring him back to Salem to shake things up as yet another member of the devious DiMera family.

Whatever happened to Don Craig?

In the 1970s and 80s, Don Craig (Jed Allan) was one of the most popular characters on "Days of Our Lives" (via Soap Central). He had a relationship with Julie Olson (Susan Seaforth Hayes), and the two were even engaged. When things didn't work out between them, Don moved on to Dr. Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall). Meanwhile, Marlena's identical twin sister, Samantha, also fell in love with Don and did everything in her power to try and steal him away. After some rocky years, Don and Marlena married in 1979, and later welcomed a child together, whom they named Don Jr. Sadly, the little boy passed away at a very young age and the couple split not long after.

Following his divorce from Marlena, Don began to get close to Maggie Horton (Suzanne Rogers). The two had feelings for her, but things got complicated with Maggie's husband Mickey Horton returned to Salem. Maggie chose to reunite with Mickey and stop seeing Don.

Two years later, in 1985, Don was written off the show in one of the most controversial ways ever (via She Knows Soaps). The beloved character was seen heading out to mail his income tax returns and he never returned. That was it. Fans never saw Don again and have no idea what happened to the character or where he is today.

Do Abby and EJ have a secret child?

"Days of Our Lives" fans will likely remember the torrid affair between Abigail Deveraux (then Kate Mansi) and EJ DiMera (then James Scott). The two shockingly engaged in a series of steamy moments together while EJ was married to Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney), per Enstarz. The affair ended very badly after Abigail believed that she might have been pregnant and Sami found out the truth. EJ begged for forgiveness, but Sami took matters into her own hands and plotted revenge.

Meanwhile, Abigail headed to the hospital for confirmation on whether or not she was carrying EJ's baby. She and EJ waited impatiently until they were notified that the pregnancy test was negative and they wouldn't be welcoming a child together. However, after the test results were given, EJ's father, Stefano DiMera (Joseph Mascolo), contacted the doctor who was seemingly on his payroll. This led many fans to believe that Abigail may have been pregnant and that Stefano stole her embryo for a devious plan, per Celeb Dirty Laundry.

In the past, Stefano stole specimens from both Roman Brady and Kate Roberts to genetically manufacture twins Rex and Cassie. Meanwhile, his daughter Kristen stole Theresa Donovan's embryo and gave birth to her son Tate. Fans now wonder if Abigail and EJ did have a child together, and if that child will return to shake things up in the future.
