Donald Trump's Response To A Podcaster's Question About The Ukraine Crisis Has Twitter In A Tizzy

Asked for their opinions on the escalating crisis in Ukraine, other former presidents might discuss Russian President Vladimir Putin's strategy and endgame, or the sanctions imposed by President Biden, or the potential for disaster if Putin follows through with a reported threat to attack the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, per the New York Post. Donald Trump, however, chose to focus on ... um ... wind energy.

The Canadian comedy group NELK Boys landed an interview with the 45th president that aired on March 9. Despite their rep for posting outrageous pranks, the group did ask some tough questions about the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Predictably, Trump said that Russian president Vladimir Putin would never have invaded Ukraine if he had still been in office. Asked whether the world should be concerned about the threat of nuclear war, Trump returned to another familiar theme on Twitter: "You should be scared, because we have incompetent people heading up our country, who, frankly, got there through a fraudulent election."

"What do you see happening next, then?" the podcaster asked. "Because it seems like the tensions are high. How does this all end? Is it going to be a long-term thing? How do you see it all unfolding?" Without a moment's hesitation, the man who once occupied the Oval Office responded, "Well — and I said this a long time ago — if this happens, we are playing right into their hands. The green energy."

Donald Trump says wind energy is an expensive eyesore

Former President Donald Trump told the NELK Boys podcast crew that the invasion of Ukraine would never have happened on his watch. But when asked what might happen next in the embattled area, Trump jumped into a diatribe against wind energy — perhaps as a show of support for Republicans who are calling for more oil drilling on American soil. "The windmills, they don't work," he declared in this clip on Twitter. "They're too expensive, they kill all the birds, they ruin your landscapes." He then said "they just go on to the next piece of prairie or land."

Twitter exploded with laughter and head-shaking when the clip circulated. One commenter said, "Are we sure he's not talking about his [border] wall?" Another pointed out, "Oh my God, he thinks that a wind farm can exhaust the wind resource in one location and they'll move on to the next place to develop a new wind farm. You can't use up the wind. That's why it's called a renewable."

Cary Elwes of "The Princess Bride" referenced a well-known literary figure who famously tried to fight a windmill. His clever tweet said simply, "Don Qui-Dopey."

The NELK Boys podcast has since been taken down, which caused Trump to sound off on his own website (via Newsmax) saying, "Whatever happened to free speech in our Country? ... We need freedom of speech again, we don't have it and it's getting worse every day!"
