What Princess Beatrice's Daughter Has In Common With Many Royal Babies

As far as baby names go in the royal family, Princess Beatrice opted for a less traditional first name than her sister and cousins. On October 1, 2021, the Royal Family announced via Instagram the birth of Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi, who was born on September 18, 2021. In a statement addressed in the caption, Beatrice and her husband Edo Mapelli Mozzi said they were doing well, and that Mozzi's son Wolfie, from a previous relationship, was "the best big brother."

While Sienna's name may be far different from more traditional royal names like Charlotte (via Royal Central) or Anne, it holds special meaning to the couple. "They were looking for an Italian name which started with an S for Sarah, to honor the Duchess [Sarah Ferguson]," a family friend of the couple told Hello! Magazine, "and also reflected the golden rust color of both the Duchess's hair color and Beatrice's, which the new baby shares."

Five of the Queen's granddaughters are named after her

That's not to say that Princess Beatrice and Edo Mapelli Mozzi didn't keep some semblance of royalty to their daughter's name, however. Her middle name just so happens to be Elizabeth, quite obviously taken from Beatrice's grandmother Queen Elizabeth II. According to Cosmopolitan, Sienna's middle name now means that five out of her seven great-granddaughters are named after her. As Twitter user @thedyingswan notes, these include Isla Elizabeth Phillips, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, Lena Elizabeth Tindall, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, and now Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi.

And while Beatrice's sister Princess Eugenie named her baby boy August, she too gave tribute to their grandparents by giving him the middle name Philip after her late grandfather Prince Philip. His first name is also a nod to another member of the royal family — Prince Albert. As Eugenie noted in her Instagram Stories (via Harper's Bazaar), Albert's middle name was Augustus. "He is named after his great grandfather and both of his great x5 grandfathers," Eugenie wrote at the time. "On his grandfather's birthday weekend, thinking of my grandfather, we are introducing our little boy."
