Billie Eilish's Subtle Grammys Tribute To Taylor Hawkins Had Foo Fighter Fans Tearing Up

The Grammy Awards were going to be a big night for the Foo Fighters. The band was nominated in three categories: best rock performance for their song "Making a Fire," best rock song for their hit "Waiting on a War," and best rock album for their latest release, "Medicine at Midnight" (via People). The band was also gearing up to perform during the ceremony.

However, tragedy struck a week before the awards show. Sadly, Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins passed away suddenly in Bogotá, Colombia, where the band was set to perform a concert (via NBC News).

The death of Hawkins was shocking and led to the band canceling all of their tour dates, including their performance at the Grammy Awards. Though they were not there in person, they won all three awards for which they were nominated.

In addition to the group taking home three trophies, other artists paid tribute to the late drummer, including alternative pop star Billie Eilish.

She wore a shirt in tribute to Taylor Hawkins

Billie Eilish is no stranger to facing critiques for her attire. After attending the Academy Awards the weekend before the Grammys, the singer's outfit choice was a topic of conversation (via Insider).

Fashion critics on TikTok were having a field day with the long and interesting black dress she wore to the Oscars. Then, all eyes were on what she would wear to the biggest night in the music industry just one weekend later, and this time, fans were feeling emotional.

When she performed at the ceremony, Eilish wore a special shirt. The baggy T-shirt had a photo of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins smiling on the front, with the name "Hawkins" scribed across the back (via The Los Angeles Times). The shirt was a subtle tribute to the late drummer.

Fans took to Twitter to weigh in on the sweet gesture. For instance, one fan wrote, "I love that she wore a Taylor Hawkins shirt for her performance tbh." At the end of the day, Hawkins remains at the forefront of everyone's minds, even if the group opted not to perform after his death. And Eilish's shirt is just one of the 2022 Grammy Awards looks we can't stop talking about.
