Why Kelsea Ballerini Won't Be Hosting The CMTs In Person

Kelsea Ballerini has become one of the biggest names in country music. She was determined to make a name for herself in the music industry from day one, making her way into a record label and looking for a contract at only 14 years old (via the Chicago Tribune).

Ballerini told the outlet, "I walked in, and I had my big, pink, sparkly guitar case," adding that she didn't have the most experience going into the meeting. "I could barely play guitar, but I played him a song that I had written, and [the label guy] looked at me and said, 'There's already a Taylor Swift. That slot's taken.' It broke my heart."

However, Ballerini proved that guy wrong. She would go on to become a rising star in the country music scene, landing impressive gigs like hosting the CMT Awards last year (via Distractify).

Ballerini was supposed to host the awards show again this year, but there has been an interesting change to her role.

Kelsea Ballerini will be making an unexpected change to her hosting gig

The CMT Awards were going to be a big night for country singer Kelsea Ballerini. Not only was she hosting the big event, but she was also nominated in several categories, including video of the year and CMT performance of the year (via the Tennessean).

However, Ballerini has faced an obstacle as the big night rolls in. According to People, she has tested positive for COVID-19. She gave the news of her diagnosis in an Instagram video, saying, "All right friends, I have some bad news, and I have some good news," continuing, "The bad news is that a couple of days ago I tested positive for COVID and the CMT Awards are tonight, so, unfortunately, I cannot be there in person anymore."

While it seemed like she would be absent from the ceremony altogether, plans have shifted to allow Ballerini to host remotely from her home. The good news is that the artist is feeling a lot better and is prepared to take on the big gig from the comfort of home.
