All Of Abigail's Alternate Personalities On Days Of Our Lives

"Days of Our Lives" fans have watched the character of Abigail Deveraux DiMera grow up before their eyes. Abigail, who is the oldest child of "DOOL" super couple Jack Deveraux and Jennifer Horton, has been through so much drama in her life. Abby's childhood was rough, as she believed her father, Jack, to be dead many times before he shockingly showed back up in Salem, per Soaps in Depth. During her early adult years, Abby met and fell in love with Chad DiMera. The two eventually got married, and Chad helped Abigail through some of the darkest days of her life.

Longtime fans of the NBC soap opera know that mental illness runs in Abigail's family as her grandmother, Laura Horton, was institutionalized for years. As Abigail grew into adulthood, she too began to suffer from mental health issues such as hallucinations and PTSD. Abby's past trauma also caused her mind to create split personalities, which took over her body and forced the otherwise sweet and beloved Salem citizen to carry out some very evil deeds (via Soaps).

Abby had two personalities that would come out to take control during the worst times of her split personality disorder, and there were both based on real people in the character's life, per TV Insider.

Abigail morphed into Gabby on several occasions

"Days of Our Lives" fans were stunned when the character of Andre DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) was murdered in 2018. Of course, the mystery surrounding Andre's death heated up when Gabi Hernandez (Camila Banus) was thought to be the prime suspect. However, "DOOL" viewers quickly learned that it wasn't Gabi that killed Andre, but Abigail Deveraux (Marci Miller) disguised as Gabi. Abby put on a dark wig and Gabi's clothes and murdered Andre in his own office. Security footage made it look like Gabi was the murderer, but really Abigail was suffering from a split personality disorder and her first alter-ego, "Gabby," was born (via Soap Dirt).

Abigail believed herself to be Gabi Hernandez and would talk and act like her during times when the alter would take over. During these times, "Gabby" would cozy up to her brother-in-law, Stefan DiMera, a man that the real Gabi had been infatuated with, per Soaps in Depth. However, that wasn't the end of Abigail's shocking split personalities. It was later revealed that she had a second alter-ego and that one was calling all the shots.

Abigail also believed herself to be her grandmother, Dr. Laura Horton

Perhaps Abigail's most surprising alter-ego was Dr. Laura. The alter was based on Abby's own grandmother, fan favorite "Days of Our Lives" character, Dr. Laura Horton. Dr. Laura was revealed to be the "gatekeeper" of Abigail's personalities and called the shots when it came to many of the decisions Abby made while struggling with her Disassociate Identity Disorder (via Soaps).

At one point, Dr. Laura even told Abigail's husband, Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) that it was here that orchestrated the murder of Andre, putting on the dark wig and clothes to become "Gabby" and then killing his brother. Dr. Laura confessed that she let "Gabby" take the blame for the murder. Dr. Laura also revealed that Abigail's personalities would have to battle each other and only one could remain the dominant one. Chad begged Abigail to come back to him, and when she did she sought treatment at an institution, where she learned to get her split personality order under control (via Soaps in Depth).

The entire split personality storyline was very dramatic and had a lot of twists and turns for "DOOL" fans to unpack. However, Abigail's mental health journey has made for some very interesting moments on the soap opera, and viewers never know what to expect when it comes to Abby's mental health.
