Donald Trump Makes A Bold Claim About Ron Desantis' Potential Presidential Run

Donald Trump has long been rumored to be taking another stab at running for the top job in the land in 2024. Just this week it's being reported that his top aides are divided as to whether the move makes sense for the divisive politician (via NBC News). But earlier this month, Newsweek reported that Trump is the favorite over Joe Biden to win the election according to oddsmakers.

But the would-be second termer is not the only Republican in the running, with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis creating buzz that he too might throw his hat in the ring. Politico reports that some of Trump's donors are supporting the younger candidate instead with big infusions of cash. But tellingly, Newsweek notes that in polls, when DeSantis is matched up against Trump, the former president is the favorite to take the GOP nomination.

While neither Republican has officially declared he will be running, it seems their once-cordial relationship may be evaporating. Remember, Trump once endorsed DeSantis when the latter politician was running for governor.

But now, with the conservatives potentially going head-to-head in 2024, Trump is making a bold — yet not surprising — assertion about how he sees things playing out come election time.

We don't know for sure if the two politicians will square off

Donald Trump told The New Yorker that he and Ron DeSantis have a "very good relationship." But that opinion — which may or may not be shared by DeSantis himself — hasn't stopped the former president from declaring that he believes he'll be victorious in the 2024 election, were he to run against his former protégé.

Oddly, however, Trump also claimed in the interview with The New Yorker that he's in the dark as to his potential opponent's intentions come campaign time. "I don't know if Ron is running, and I don't ask him," Trump told the outlet, adding confidently, "I think I would win."

Again, polls show the data to back up this mega-claim, but as The Guardian notes, if Trump doesn't run in 2024, DeSantis is the leader among the GOP field of potential contenders, including Ted Cruz.

So when will we know whether Trump and DeSantis are officially going up against one another for the Republican nomination? CNN reports sources are saying Trump may declare his intentions soon, so stay tuned!
