Per his CBS bio, Peter Bergman was born in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and is the son of a Navy officer. In 1985, Peter Bergman married Mariellen Bergman, and the couple has been together ever since.
They share two children, Clare Bergman and Connor Bergman, both of whom were delivered by C-section. Connor's birth was especially harrowing as Bergman wasn't permitted access to the delivery room. While he was allowed to attend the birth of Clare, things didn't go quite as planned. "I wasn't much help because I kind of passed out," he told People. "I didn't handle the blood terribly well."
Refreshingly, the Bergmans' marriage has been without scandal or controversy — something almost unheard of in Hollywood. His character Jack, however, is still in a complicated situation with his ex-wife Phyllis, and his other ex, Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters), is making his life difficult.

Unfortunately, much is unknown about the personal life of Peter Bergman's wife, Mariellen. We know much more about his first wife, Christine Ebersole, though, as she is also an actress. Bergman opened up about his first marriage on the podcast "Here's the Thing with Alec Baldwin" in 2019, revealing that he and Ebersole met as young, struggling actors. While he didn't say what led to the end of the marriage, he did admit that he had a rough time getting his career off the ground while Ebersole found success much more quickly, so it's possible that this led to a rift in their relationship. Still, he said they remain "good friends" and he is "very grateful I was married to a lovely, lovely woman."
Per IMDb, Ebersole also found success on television, with roles on shows like "One Life to Live," "Point Pleasant," Sullivan & Son," and "Blue Bloods." She is also a Broadway star, with more than a dozen productions under her belt, per Playbill.
