The Inside Story Of The Davis Girls On General Hospital

"General Hospital" centers around the lives of various families in the fictional town of Port Charles, New York. Some families have more impact than others and drive a large percentage of storylines. "GH" doesn't shy away from giving its female characters the airtime they deserve. However, one family is the perfect marination of familial bonds and female-driven storylines: Alexis and her three daughters (via Soap Central). However, the fathers of Alexis Davis' three daughters are all dangerous bad boys. It explains a lot about the men they'd eventually end up with.

The Davis girls are the perfect example of being leading ladies at the center of the show's drama. Over the years, the number of Davis girls has grown, and their storylines have become more prominent. Comprising the "core four" of the Davis girls are; Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn), Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco), Kristina Corinthos-Davis (Lexi Ainsworth), and Molly Lansing-Davis (Haley Pullos).

The story of Alexis Davis and her daughters consists of heartache, drama, and, most significantly, a bond between sisters and their mother. Throughout their trials and tribulations, these four women are always there for one another, regardless of the circumstances.

Alexis is the matriarch of the Davis girls

Nancy Lee Grahn's "General Hospital" brought to life the character of Alexis Davis. She is the matriarch of the Davis girls. Everything started with her. Her sexual encounters with three different "bad boy" types gave her the three daughters she loves so dearly. Alexis' magnetic pull toward the mob and organized crime (despite being an attorney) led to the births of Sam McCall, Kristina Corinthos-Davis, and Molly Lansing-Davis.

Alexis comes from the Cassadine family, which in the world of "General Hospital" is not desirable. The Cassadines are a family filled with con artists, thieves, and mass murderers. Unfortunately for Alexis, the murderous aspect of her birth family led to significant trauma in her life. Helena Cassadine (Constance Towers) slit the throat of Alexis' mother in front of her when she was a little girl. This event triggered Alexis to lose her memory which her father took advantage of and gave her a new "rags" type of life (via Soap Central).

Her journey led to her encountering future mob boss Julian Jermone (William DeVry) and having a one-night stand when she was a teenager. The sexual encounter led to an unplanned pregnancy that Alexis' father, Mikkos Cassadine, sought to take care of. After giving birth, he took the baby from Alexis and put it up for adoption. It wouldn't become known for many years that the baby was Port Charles' resident private investigator Sam (via Soaps In Depth).

Sam is the eldest Davis daughter

Sam McCall is the oldest of the Davis girls. Her tenure on "General Hospital" has been a whirlwind of drama. As previously mentioned, her birth was a traumatic event for her mother, Alexis Davis. Thanks to her grandfather, Mikkos Cassadine, Alexis believed Sam had been dead for many years. However, many years later, Sam arrived in Port Charles. After a brief affair with Jasper Jacks (Ingo Radmacher), she became involved with Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard). The fling with Sonny resulted in a pregnancy that culminated in a stillbirth (via Soaps In Depth).

The plan for Sam's baby with Sonny was for her to raise it with Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) to keep Sonny's family together. The birth came early because of a fight between Sam and Alexis (whom she didn't know at the time was her mother). Sam and Alexis had a verbal altercation because Alexis was desperate for someone to help save her other daughter Kristina Corinthos-Davis. Sam's unborn child had the stem cells to make that happen. Sadly, Sam's troubles with her biological mother (unknown to her) didn't end there.

Sam's younger adopted brother Danny was infected with the disease and ultimately passed away. Alexis was given the final antidote to the condition, which in theory, could've saved Danny from death. Sam blamed Alexis for Danny's death, but her life turned upside down soon. Sam learned the truth about her maternity, and Alexis was her mother.

Kristina is the troubled middle Davis child

Perhaps the most troubled of the Davis girls is Kristina Corinthos-Davis. Kristina is the second-born daughter of Alexis Davis and the first-born daughter of mob boss Sonny Corinthos. Alexis initially didn't want her daughter connected to Sonny's ties to organized crime and the danger of that. To keep Kristina safe, Alexis pretended that Ned Ashton (Wally Kurth) was her biological father (via Soaps In Depth).

In later years, Kristina faced the most difficult challenges of any of the Davis girls. The most prominent examples are her relationship with Kiefer Bauer (Christian Alexander) and her misguided trust in cult leader Shiloh (Coby Ryan McLaughlin). Kristina's trust in those two men led to severely traumatic events that could've cost her life.

During Kristina's relationship with Kiefer, it became increasingly apparent that something wasn't right. Kristina wasn't acting like her usual self, and many red flags were flying everywhere regarding Kiefer. Ultimately, viewers learned that Kiefer was abusing Kristina. In a jealous rage, Kiefer beat Kristina to the point of hospitalization. However, Kiefer wouldn't be a problem for Kristina for much longer because Alexis and her vehicle eventually mow him down (via Soap Dirt).

Kiefer's abuse was one thing, but Kristina's next tangled mess came from cult leader Shiloh's hands. Jason and Sam concocted a plan to extract Kristina from Shiloh's clutches. Sam offered herself up to him to take Shiloh down for good and further protect Kristina, which almost led to Shiloh raping Sam (Soap Central).

Molly is the down to earth youngest Davis girl

Molly Lansing-Davis is the youngest daughter of Alexis Davis, and she's probably the most level-headed. She doesn't get into as much trouble as her sisters. However, Molly has still had her fair share of significant moments on "General Hospital." For example, her relationship with TJ Ashford is one of those rare couplings on soap operas that withstand the test of time. Despite every obstacle thrown in their way, such as his kidnapping at the hands of Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober), they always work through it (via Soap Central).

As noted by Soaps In Depth, Molly followed in her mother's footsteps and pursued a career in law. Initially, she wanted to be on the prosecution side of the law, but she switched her concentration following her mother's incarceration. While her mother was locked away in jail, she assisted in freeing the wrongfully accused inmate (and TJ's birth father), Shawn Butler (Sean Blakemore).

Unlike her mother and two sisters, Molly decided not to go the traditional route in her relationship. Despite pressure from many to tie the knot to longtime boyfriend TJ, Molly opted for a different path. Instead of a wedding with antiquated values (according to Molly), they chose to have a commitment ceremony and be domestic partners (via Showbiz CheatSheet).
