"Days of Our Lives" fans know that drama and romance are the backbones of the soap opera. Over the sudser's more than 55-year run, there have been a plethora of fan-favorite couples. Some couples were short-lived such as Jennifer Horton (Melissa Reeves) and Daniel Jonas (Shawn Christian), per Soaps in Depth and Lucas Horton (Bryan Dattilo) and Chloe Lane (Nadia Bjorlin), per Soap Central. However, others were in it for the long haul and have proven that love truly does conquer all in Salem.

Throughout the decades, super couples like Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope Brady (Kristian Alfonso), John Black (Drake Hogestyn) and Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) have been born, per Fame 10. As the years went on, younger couples like Abigail Deveraux (Marci Miller) and Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn), Ben Weston (Robert Scott Wilson) and Ciara Brady (Victoria Konefal), and Will Horton (Chandler Massey) and Sonny Kiriakis (Zach Tinker) have taken center stage. Of course, fans can't get enough of their favorite pairings.

One such couple has been Lani Price (Sal Stowers) and Eli Grant (Lamon Archey). However, like the rest of the couples in Salem, Eli and Lani have had a tough road.

Lani brought the drama to Salem from the start

"Days of Our Lives" fans first met Lani Price in the fall of 2015. Lani came to Salem as a young police officer, but she was hiding a big secret. She believed mayor Abe Carver was her biological father and used her position on the police force to get closer to him. When she finally told Abe the truth about her parentage, he was thrilled to welcome her into his family, per Soaps in Depth.

Meanwhile, Lani also forged strong relationships with her co-workers, Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering) and JJ Deveraux (Casey Moss). Lani and JJ even had a romantic relationship. However, things got complicated when Lani met the new police officer in town, Eli Grant, who came to Salem in 2011. It was clear that Lani and Eli had feelings for each other, but Lani remained committed to JJ. Sadly, things changed when Lani mistakenly believed that JJ had cheated on her with Gabi Hernandez (Camila Banus), she turned to Eli for comfort (via Cheat Sheet). The two even ended up having a one-night stand that resulted in a pregnancy. She later convinced Eli to allow her and JJ to raise the baby.

Lani and Eli named their son David Abraham after their fathers

Although "Days of Our Lives" viewers watched Lani Price and Eli Grant originally agreed to let JJ Deveraux believe the baby belonged to him, the truth was eventually uncovered, per Cheat Sheet. Once JJ found out that Lani had lied to him, he was devastated, and the pair split.

Lani found herself heartbroken, but Eli was there to help her pick up the pieces. The pair agreed to raise their child together and began to make preparations. The duo was happy and excited to start their family when tragedy struck, per Soaps in Depth.

Lani went into early labor. Although the doctors did everything they could to help the baby survive, the infant died (via Soaps). Lani and Eli were both devastated by the loss and decided to name their late son David Abraham after both of their fathers. Following David Abraham's death, Lani and Eli were there to help each other through their grief, which solidified their bond further. The two fell deeply in love and eventually married. They later welcomed twins, named Jules and Carver.

Eli and Lani have been through a lot in their relationship, but losing their firstborn child was something that they nearly didn't recover from. However, the pair always kept David Abraham close to their hearts.
