The Saga Of Nina's Daughters On General Hospital

Nina Reeves first appeared on "General Hospital" in 2014, portrayed by "The Young and the Restless" vet Michelle Stafford. The role was taken over in 2019 by actress Cynthia Watros, who has brought her own spin to the notoriously troublesome character. Nina's origin story was one of tragedy. Two decades before Nina's arrival in Port Charles, she had been married to doctor Silas Clay (Michael Easton) who was having an affair with Ava Jerome (Maura West), per Soap Central. Her mother, Madeline Reeves (Donna Mills), was desperate to get her daughter away from her philandering husband, especially after Nina discovered she was pregnant. Madeline gave her daughter an overdose of antidepressants hoping to induce a miscarriage, but instead put Nina in a coma that she wouldn't wake up from for 20 years.

When Nina did eventually regain consciousness in 2014, she was devastated to learn she had lost her baby and that Silas now had an adult daughter with Ava. Her grief led her to do some particularly nefarious things, such as inducing Ava's labor during her second pregnancy and kidnapping the baby. Eventually, Nina received psychological treatment and managed to create a respectable life for herself. Following Madeline's death in 2018, Nina was shocked to discover that she had a daughter. She had given birth while in her coma and her mother had given the baby away. She became desperate to find the child that was taken away from her and her husband Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) was more than happy to help.

Sasha Gilmore pretends to be Nina's daughter

Valentin Cassadine was desperate to win back the affection of his wife, Nina Reeves, after she made good on her threat of divorce after discovering some of his shady dealings (via Soap Opera Spy). He thought that if he could locate the child that Nina had given birth to so many years earlier, all would be forgiven. Valentin hired private investigator Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) to search for Nina's daughter but he ultimately came up empty.

Valentin then decided to pay a woman named Sasha Gilmore (Sofia Mattson) to pose as Nina's daughter and falsified a maternity test to prove their relationship (via Soap Dirt). His scheme succeeded and Nina gratefully accepted Valentin back and began bonding with Sasha. After several months of living a lie, Sasha's feelings of guilt only grew. Eventually, the secret came out when Lulu Falconeri (Emme Rylan) overheard Sasha discussing the lie and then revealed it to everyone at Nina and Valentin's second wedding ceremony, per Soaps.com. Nina was furious with Valentin and Sasha for their betrayal and cut ties with both of them. In the few years since this transpired, the three have been able to reconcile and now remain on good terms.

Nelle died before Nina learned they were mother and daughter

In 2020, Nina Reeves finally got closure about her daughter's identity, though the realization was painful. Nina was in possession of a half heart necklace left to her by her mother and knew that her long lost child had the other half (via Soaps in Depth). The pendant appeared in Port Charles, having been found by little Avery Corinthos (Ava and Grace Scarola) in the woods outside her family's remote cabin. This confirmed to Nina that the late Nelle Benson (Chloe Lanier), who had recently been at that cabin just before her death, was her daughter.

Nina was distraught to find out the identity of her daughter only after she had died, and was even more disturbed that Nelle had done such horrible things in her life. Nelle had been a troubled young woman with a long history of disturbing behavior and nefarious crimes — the most disturbing of which was when Nelle switched her and Michael Corinthos' (Chad Duell) newborn infant with a deceased baby and told him their son was stillborn. Eventually the baby swap was revealed and Nelle fell from a cliff to her death following an altercation with Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright).

Nina was convinced that Nelle's life could have turned out differently if she had been the one to raise her, but no one else seemed to think so. She also grew desperate to hold onto the connection to her daughter through her grandson Wiley, per Celebrating the Soaps. However, Michael and his family had hated Nelle and already had disdain for Nina due to her own problematic behavior, so her attempts to access Wiley caused nothing but chaos and drama.

Only Carly knows that Willow is also Nina's daughter

"General Hospital" viewers thought that the story of Nina Reeve's long-lost daughter had finally been put to rest when she uncovered the truth about Nelle Benson, but that was not the case. In May 2022, Harmony Miller (Inga Cadranel) went on a murdering spree in an attempt to hide the fact that she was not actually the biological mother to her daughter Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen), per Soaps in Depth. After being hit by a car while fleeing from police, Harmony gave a deathbed confession to Carly Corinthos in which she revealed that Willow was Nina's biological daughter and Nelle Benson's twin.

Willow is now in a relationship with Carly's son, Michael Corinthos, and has adopted Wiley with no knowledge that the little boy is actually her nephew. Carly despises Nina and doesn't want her to have any further connection to their family — not to mention Willow and Nina already hate each other — so she's decided to keep what she knows a secret. However, recent events suggest that the revelation might be imminent. Willow is pregnant with Michael's child but recently received the devastating news that she also has leukemia (via Soaps.com). Now that both Willow and her unborn baby are at risk, it seems probable that a biological family member will be necessary to save one or both of their lives and Carly will be forced to expose the truth. Fans of the soap will be waiting with baited breath for the inevitable reveal and the juicy aftermath.
