All Of Julianne And Derek Hough's Siblings You Don't Know About

Most people's family trees aren't particularly exciting. Some of us may have a semi-notable relative here and there, or possibly a famous ancestor. But it's extremely rare for multiple members of the same immediate family to be current household names. Such is the case for Derek and Julianne Hough, the dancing brother and sister who have captured America's hearts through their many television and movie appearances. What's even more unlikely is that the talent doesn't end there — the Hough family is full of extremely talented individuals.

While none of Derek and Julianne's siblings are as well-known as they are, many of them are very successful in their own fields. They are a very tight-knit family who often publicly praise one another for their accomplishments. From doting stay-at-home parents to highly driven entrepreneurs, let's take a look at the people who make up one of the most genetically gifted families on the planet.

Julianne and Derek Hough have three sisters and four stepsiblings

From oldest to youngest, the Hough sibling lineup is as follows: Sharee (born July 22, 1977), Marabeth (born November 26, 1980), Katherine (born June 9, 1982), Derek (born May 17, 1985), and Julianne (born July 20, 1988). Their parents, Bruce and Marriann Hough, divorced in 1998. Marriann remarried that same year to financial consultant Aaron Nelson. Aaron had four children of his own from a previous marriage, bringing the total number of kids in their blended family to nine. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the family moved into a 4,000-square-foot Las Vegas home in 1999 to accommodate their family of 11.

Although the five Hough siblings are fairly open about their personal lives on social media, the Nelson stepsiblings prefer to keep a low profile. From what we've gathered via Marriann Hough's Instagram profile, the Nelson kids consist of Brittany, Kallie, Kimberly, and A.J. Unlike Julianne and Derek, it seems the four stepsiblings are happy to live normal lives outside of the limelight.

The Hough siblings all look incredibly similar

While none of the Hough siblings are actually twins, some of them look nearly identical to one another. All five of them have naturally blonde hair and blue eyes, and aside from Derek, it can be difficult to tell them apart in a lineup. See for yourself in a collage that Mariann, the Hough family matriarch, posted to her Instagram account.

The two sisters who are most easily mistaken for one another are Julianne and Marabeth. Their features are so similar that Life & Style Magazine once printed a photo of Marabeth, Derek, and Katherine jumping into a lake, but they erroneously claimed that Marabeth was Julianne. In reality, they had cropped Julianne out of the photo, leaving only a small portion of her leg in the image. The Hough siblings had a good laugh about it, with Julianne posting about the incident on her Instagram account.

As the two most publicly known of the siblings, many people mistake Derek and Julianne Hough for twins as well due to their similar appearances and careers. Both have been pro dancers on Dancing with the Stars, both have appeared in live-for-TV adaptations of Broadway musicals (Julianne in "Grease Live" and Derek in "Hairspray Live"), and both have served as judges on competition shows (Julianne on "America's Got Talent" and Derek on "World of Dance"). But despite all of their similarities, the brother/sister duo are actually three years apart, with Julianne being the youngest and Derek being the second youngest of their five siblings.

Sharee Hough also turned dance into a career

Sharee is the oldest of the five Hough children. Much like the family she was raised in, today she has her own big, blended family. The entrepreneur has six children of her own from a previous marriage, and after marrying Mark Selman on September 8, 2018, she now has three stepchildren as well. The couple currently resides in Nashville, Tennessee. In addition to being a busy mom, Sharee is also the founder of Houghwerks, a subscription-based online fitness program that offers yoga, dance, and strength-training classes.

Much like her siblings Derek and Julianne, Sharee began dancing at a young age. She received ballet training from Ballet West Conservatory and also went on to study dance in college. Sharee danced professionally for multiple dance and theater companies, and even danced alongside her sister Julianne in the film remake of "Footloose." Sharee was pregnant at the time the movie was filmed, and according to a comment Julianne left on a throwback photo Sharee shared on Instagram, she was inspired to name her son after one of the film's lead actors — Quaid, after Dennis Quaid himself.

Marabeth Hough is a multi-talented professional

The second eldest of the Hough clan, Marabeth is a realtor who lives in College Grove, Tennessee, a small town outside of Nashville. She is married to Michael Poole, a businessman who serves as the vice president of Jan Marini Skin Research, a company that develops skin care products. The couple has been married since September 7, 2002, and they have a son named Aiden, who was born on September 28, 2004.

Marabeth has an impressive professional resume and has worked in a wide variety of industries. In addition to being a successful realtor in the Nashville metropolitan area, Marabeth is a holistic health coach and is certified by the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. Before becoming a realtor and a health coach, Marabeth owned and managed multiple Aveda salons in Tennessee. She is also a singer/songwriter and has collaborated with musical artists such as Alex Boye (via YouTube). Is there anything you can't do when you're a Hough?

One thing Marabeth hasn't done professionally is dance, unlike her siblings Derek and Julianne. But in 2016, she participated in Dancing with the Nashville Stars, a charity event that was inspired by the very show that catapulted Derek and Julianne to stardom. The competition was organized by Feed America First, and Marabeth ended up being the champion after competing against five other local celebrities. We wouldn't expect anything less than greatness from someone born into this family.

Katherine Hough has been supported by her family during her grief

The middle child of the Hough bunch, Katherine is an esthetician based in Wilmington, North Carolina. She has been a licensed esthetician for over two decades and offers services such as facials, waxing, and eyelash lifts. Katherine previously managed an Aveda Salon, and was also a sales rep for Jan Marini Skin Research. Both are companies that her sister Marabeth and brother-in-law Michael have been linked to professionally.

Katherine was previously married to photographer and entrepreneur T.J. Drechsel, with whom she had three daughters. After their separation, Katherine began a relationship with gaming content creator Tony Schnur in early 2021. Unfortunately, in June 2021 Schnur was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, according to Katherine's Instagram. In late 2022, Tony underwent multiple brain surgeries and suffered from complications and infection in the brain as a result. After fighting his disease courageously for over a year and a half, he tragically died in February 2023.

Although Katherine shared on Instagram that she has struggled with grief since her partner's passing, she has also made an effort to focus on the good memories they shared. She also received an outpouring of love and support from relatives and fans of the Hough family. After Tony's passing, Katherine's mother Marriann made a heartfelt post on Instagram, sharing support for her daughter during such a difficult time.

After Marriann Hough remarried they added four stepsiblings to the family

Marriann Hough, Derek and Julianne's mother, was married to Bruce Hough until 1998. According to his LinkedIn profile, Bruce is the managing director of Hough Management, LLC, and was previously the president of Nutraceutical, a nutritional supplement company he co-founded in 1993. He is also a Republican National Committee member, and according to Park Record, he has previously endorsed President Donald Trump for re-election.

The same year Marriann divorced Bruce, she married Aaron Nelson, a financial consultant who had four children of his own from a previous marriage. Per the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the couple lived in Las Vegas for almost two decades before listing their home for sale to move closer to their children and grandchildren in Tennessee in 2018. While Aaron's children keep a very low profile on social media, Marriann frequently posts about her relationship with her husband, often referring to him affectionately as her "Buddha Baby." If that isn't #RelationshipGoals, we aren't sure what is.
