Juicy Details About Bret Baier's First Date With His Wife
Fox News anchor Bret Baier has become one of the network's most recognizable personalities, having landed high-profile interviews with the likes of Donald Trump, Kamala Harris, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Those encounters had their fair share of seemingly contentious moments (including the time Bret accidentally exposed Trump's real height) but behind the scenes, he has someone steady in his life to return to day after day. That would be his wife, Amy Baier, whom he married in 2004. They met on a blind date set up by friends in 2001, but it doesn't exactly sound like it was love at first sight.
Amy spilled the tea to Country Magazine (via Daily Express U.S.), when she admitted, "I'm not sure why they thought it would work, but they had a good feeling it would. They did warn me, though, to buckle up — that a life with Brett Baier would be an interesting ride." At the time, Bret was well into his broadcast journalism career, having joined Fox News as the Atlanta bureau chief in 1998. He then became the network's Pentagon correspondent after driving to the area to cover the September 11 terrorist attacks. Despite his busy professional life, he still managed to take the time to make a strong impression on Amy. As she explained, "Bret was such a gentleman. He's from Atlanta and has that southern charm. We've been together ever since."
Bret's early doubts about Amy weren't enough to stop the eventual wedding bells
From a certain point of view, it seems there was no way for Amy and Bret Baier to resist their eventual union. The friends who set them up were actually dating each other at the time and they weren't going to let geography or excuses get in their way. Amy was working in Chicago at the time and wasn't interested in a long-distance relationship, while Bret didn't think he had enough free time for romance. Eventually, though, he convinced her to fly out to D.C. for a Rolling Stones concert, and what started that evening led to plenty of satisfaction. As Amy recounted to Naples Illustrated in 2021, "I had zero expectations, but I got back on the plane thinking I'd met someone very special. And when Bret dropped me off at the airport, he told his best friend, 'I am going to marry her.'"
Bret stayed true to his word, and in the decades since, the Baiers have remained by each other's sides while starting a family together. They welcomed two sons, Paul and Daniel, but life with their boys hasn't been without its challenges. Paul endured his share of health issues as he was born with multiple congenital heart defects, and underwent a series of open-heart surgeries over the years. Fortunately for Paul, if his father's Instagram is any indication, his parents have evolved from skeptical blind daters to supportive parents who are there to take him home whenever the doctors are done putting him back together.
