Meghan Markle Defied Royal Beauty Norms With A Gorgeous Red Lip
Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, has been subject to more criticism about her looks ever since she married into the British royal family. Although she didn't let her Hollywood background stop her from adapting to the family's aesthetic, Meghan occasionally broke the beauty rules that royals have to follow. The duchess wore red lipstick twice as a working royal, despite the protocol discouraging royals from wearing bright-colored lipsticks. However, she's not completely in the wrong.
When Meghan was pregnant with Prince Archie before his birth in 2019, she attended Cirque du Soleil's Totem show in a dark blue, sparkly dress and wore berry lipstick for the first time. Royal expert Myka Meier told Elle before this outing that the duchess chose to wear neutral pink looks more often, but she can switch things up depending on the event. Meier said, "She wants to come across respectful and relatable and kind of transition into this role as smoothly as possible ... But I think she'll play with color more on the red carpet." Meghan definitely played with color that night, as the color on her cheeks and her smoky eye look also made her brown eyes pop.

Meghan Markle wore red lips for the second time at the 2020 Endeavor Fund Awards, not long after she and Harry announced they would stop working as senior royals. The duchess seemed more comfortable playing with color as she wore a light blue bodycon dress with short sleeves that evening.
Her latest red lip reminded people that it's rare
For a non-working royal, Meghan Markle hasn't worn red lipstick that often. It seems like her makeup routine from her days working with the British crown is here to stay. In 2018, her makeup artist and friend Daniel Martin told People why the Duchess doesn't really choose a bold lip color. "The one time she did a red lip, she just didn't feel comfortable in it," Martin said. "She likes to talk, and she's not a fussy person, so she doesn't want to have to worry about anything."
The last time Meghan wore a red lip was for the 2022 Invictus Games, which she attended with Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex. The Duchess of Sussex wore a white Valentino dress with cutout floral details on the top and paired it with two silver bracelets. The cutout details of her modest dress were a suitable way for a royal to make a simple outfit pop, and her lipstick shade added some character to the white-and-brown look.

Meghan received her flowers for her makeup, which reminded fans of her acting days. An X user posted a photo of the Duchess at the Invictus Games next to a photo of her at an AOL event in New York in 2016. The caption read, "Side part, Red lip Meghan Markle is my favorite thing." While Meghan might not return to acting despite the speculation, it's undeniable that it's exciting to see her with makeup similar to her pre-royal looks.
