Donna Mills, 85, Loves To Stay In Shape — But She Can't Kick This One Craving
Everyone enjoys a good snack. From a little chocolate to something sour, a quick bite between meals helps the day go by and, when watching a show or movie, adds to the whole experience. Even the stars like something tasty between meals or just before bed — though their snacks may be a little fancier than most people. But for Donna Mills, who has been living her life in the public eye for 60 years, the expensive snacks other stars gravitate to aren't her style. The "Knots Landing" actor loves a crunchy, cheesy treat most people are all too familiar with: Doritos.
Mills opened up about her love for the popular nacho cheese-flavored tortilla chips to Fox News, admitting that her consumption of the treat started at work: "Different sets that I've been on ... they always got a bag of Doritos in the trailer for me ... I don't eat them as much as I used to. But they're still a treat."
There is one ingredient she avoids as much as she can: "I've always been anti-sugar." The "Play Misty for Me" star went on to explain her aversion to the sweet substance to Fox. "I read a book a long time ago called 'Sugar Blues' that really talked about the sugar industry and everything, and I have stayed away from it ever since."
Cutting sugar out of your diet can be tough, even when it's well documented what happens to the body when someone eats too much of it. But with less than one gram of the sweetener in a serving, the Nacho Cheese Doritos Mills loves so much are a good snack for anyone looking to keep their sugar intake low.
Donna Mills isn't slowing down
A trained ballerina, Donna Mills has always been careful about what she puts into her body, telling AARP, "During the soap opera years, I never ate pasta, sugar, bread, ice cream, cookies, or any of that kind of stuff. I would have maybe half a glass of wine. Now I eat, but I'm still careful." Mills may be 85, but she is still a knockout who sticks to a strict exercise routine: "I play tennis five times a week, for two hours at a time ... I also have a small gym in my home, so I work out with light weights, use my Peloton, do a lot of stretching on my ballet barre." And while it isn't easy to stay active, Mills credits her dancing experience with the determination to keep going. "If you grew up dancing, you know that being tired, being in a little pain, that's just the process. So you just keep going, you go through it."
Mills also keeps active by working on the vineyard she owns with her partner, Larry Gilman. Known for her beauty, it may be difficult to imagine Mills getting her hands dirty, telling Woman's World, "I just lose myself there. You don't even think about anything else. It's all centered on that, and it's so good for your head to get out of everything that's going on in the world." The General Hospital star went on to discuss the creepy crawlies she comes across while toiling the land: "I never would have thought that I would be so farmer-ish that I don't mind the bugs, I don't mind the bees, there's snakes up there, and none of that bothers me."
