Remember '80s Supermodel Anna Bayle? She's Still Absolutely Gorgeous Today
In a decade filled with superstars, few names have made as lasting an impact as the supermodels of the 1980s. Even today, many of the beautiful women who graced the covers of fashion magazines and the annual Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue continue to hold a power over the public. From Cindy Crawford to Christy Turlington, the supermodels of the '80s are just as gorgeous as ever. Included in that collection of stunning women is Anna Bayle, who is considered the world's first Asian supermodel.
Bayle rose to prominence after being discovered by Filipino designer Auggie Cordero in 1976. Her breakout runway show happened in Hong Kong. She later moved to model in Paris and New York, and before long, she was walking the runway for the biggest names in fashion. But after 18 years, Bayle retired. Her decision broke the hearts of designers around the world, but as she told Vogue Philippines in 2025, "I never looked back. It's best to leave when you're at the top." Seeing her today, it's safe to assume Bayle would still be at the top if she decided to jump back into modeling.
Bayle posed for a Vogue Philippines photoshoot when she did her 2025 interview, and like many former supermodels, she was as stunning as ever. The supermodel's piercing eyes still come through the camera, and her inviting smile continues to make hearts flutter. Above all that, Bayle still has the same long, silky black hair that she would famously flip on the catwalk. The youthful energy Bayle brought in spades in the 1980s has shifted, giving her a quiet and calming aura that comes from the inner confidence of a woman who knows she has made her mark on the world but still has more to do.
Anna Bayle used her supermodel power to help other women like her look their best
Anna Bayle was one of the highest-paid models of the 1980s and surprised the fashion world when she walked away, but the supermodel's story was far from finished. Following the path her fellow supermodel Iman set in 1994, Bayle launched her own lipstick brand in 1997. Bayle's desire to create the product came from her experience as a model, explaining to the New York Times that the available colors didn't work well with her skin tone, forcing her to be inventive: "I would blend beige or yellow foundation, or I'd use an eye pencil." Her collection, Anna Bayle Lipcolours, was made for others who shared her complexion, giving them options that would let them look their best.
Shortly after launching her lipstick line, Bayle gave birth to her son, Callum, and left the beauty business to focus on raising him. But when Callum went off to college, she started a new profession working in New York real estate. Unsurprisingly, Bayle has proven herself to be more than capable in her new role, working at Douglas Elliman Real Estate and selling homes that go for millions. The supermodel has also kept busy working on a personal project, telling Lifestyle.Inq in 2018, "I love writing, and I'm working on a book on my life so I hope to finish it." Looking back on her experiences, from growing up in the Philippines and studying medicine to becoming a model, an entrepreneur, a mother, and now a real estate agent, Bayle summed up what she has learned in the same quick fashion as her iconic hair flip: "If there is anything I know about life, it's that you'll have your own fate."
