The Truth About Meghan Markle's New Hairstyle

Meghan Markle's new hairstyle is turning heads. The Duchess of Sussex debuted her new look on a video at the 2020 Girl Up Leadership Summit. Her waist-long locks flowed freely and looked absolutely gorgeous as she gave an empowering speech to young leaders.

According to George Northwood, who was Meghan's hair stylist in the U.K. before she and Prince Harry stepped back from the royal family, the actress-turned-royal is definitely proving a point with her new long, straight strands. "She's making a statement with hair that long — it represents strength and a sense that she's really got everything sorted," Northwood told The Telegraph. "This straighter, longer hairstyle marks a new chapter in her life without such strict protocols."

This is good news for royal watchers who have been wondering how Meghan and Harry are adjusting to their new life in Los Angeles. It looks like they're doing just fine, at least judging by Meghan's hair.

Meghan Markle is able to 'take a more relaxed approach' with her look now

While many might assume that Meghan's waist-long hair is the result of extensions, Northwood thinks Meghan grew it out. "People think that Meghan has had hair extensions, but I never put any extensions in her hair in the two years that I worked with her. It's all her own hair, and it's great to see it looking so long and healthy."

While Meghan's new hair isn't as extreme as some of the quarantine hair transformations we've seen from other celebs, it's still quite significant. As a senior royal, Meghan wasn't able to "push the boundaries" with her hair, explained Northwood. "Whereas now, she can take a more relaxed approach to how she dresses, therefore this sleeker blow-dried hairstyle works beautifully – it's casual but still polished and appropriate for her new life."

Meghan has been opting for more casual hairstyles as of late, such as the half up, half down style she's been seen sporting on Zoom calls.
