The Worst-Dressed Characters In Hallmark History Deserve A Fashion Refresh
The Hallmark Channel is the GOAT when it comes to easygoing, heartwarming content. Whether you're checking out the Hallmark Channel's best holiday movies or tuning into one of the network's hit series, fans of the channel can always expect cozy, sweet content. So, what can throw a wrench in this easy-to-watch channel? That would be the hard-to-watch fashion.
Over the years, there have been some Hallmark Channel movie outfits that were complete disasters. At times, the wardrobe isn't something we could ever imagine a real person wearing for one reason or another. Sometimes it's simply a bizarre look; other times, it's all wrong for the occasion or the weather. We've seen zany color palettes, outlandish accessories, and 'fits that look like they were put together after a visit to the craft store.
Overwhelmingly, the characters on the Hallmark Channel have rather unremarkable wardrobes. A peacoat with a colorful scarf and some boots is basically the uniform for most of the channel's characters. Yet, some characters push the envelope a bit with their fashion. And, just as it goes in real life, sometimes fashion risks pay off, and sometimes, they land you on a worst-dressed list. So, the time has come to discuss some of the worst-dressed characters in Hallmark history and how much we'd love to revamp their wardrobes.
Charlie needs a new uniform
Jean Smart has won a whopping eight Emmys, but her character in "A Shoe Addict's Christmas" (2018) isn't winning any best-dressed awards. Her character Charlie is a guardian angel, so it's fitting that her outfit is a little out of this world. Even so, it's hard to imagine why her ensemble looks like this. Her silly snowman sweater and even sillier red top hat with fake poinsettias and mini presents stuck all over it made her look like a clown who handmade her Christmas party outfit after a big sale at Michael's.
Edward sports a truly baffling hat
"Sense, Sensibility & Snowmen" (2019) is a fun, lighthearted holiday movie, led by two of the best Hallmark stars, Erin Krakow and Luke Macfarlane. While the stars were as charming as ever, we can't say the same about Macfarlane's wardrobe. His character, Edward Ferris, steps out in a flat cap, which he pairs with a coat that has an inexplicably popped collar. Everything about this outfit looks unnatural on this character, and while it was clearly meant to say something about his personality, the result is just plain distracting.
Mia's dress is all wrong
A moment where a woman enters a room or descends a staircase in a stunning dress, prompting her love interest to stop and stare speechlessly, is one of the most classic rom-com tropes. In "A Midnight Kiss" (2018), however, something seems to have gotten lost somewhere between this moment in the script and this moment onscreen. When Mia, played by Adelaide Kane, enters the room and David, played by Carlos PenaVega, has his starstruck rom-com moment, it's hard to ignore how this baggy, overly covered-up, black sequin dress doesn't rise to the special occasion.
Lauren's evening gown isn't much better
"Fashionably Yours" (2020) features a similar moment, when Kendrick Sampson's character Rob is rendered speechless when he sees Lauren, played by Kat Graham, dressed up. Sure, Graham would look stunning in anything, but this particular dress is the wrong choice for this character — especially since she works in fashion. Between the cut and fabric of the dress and the shawl, this whole look has big mother-of-the-bride vibes and looks totally out of place in this scene.
Did Jenny challenge herself to wear as many statement pieces together as possible?
In "Harvest Moon" (2015), Jessy Schram's character Jenny is an out-of-touch, stuck-up city girl visiting the country. So, of course, that was sure to be reflected in her wardrobe. Throughout the movie, though, this went in a direction that was a bit over the top. In particular, this outfit had a truly shocking number of clashing elements. There are patterned shoes, peach-colored skinny jeans, a gold belt, a blue and purple tie-dye button-down shirt, and a magenta neck scarf. Suffice it to say, it's overwhelming to look at.
Ironically, Bonnie needs a personal shopper
If you're a professional personal gift shopper, having a sense of style is a necessity. Meghan Ory's character, Bonnie, in "The Secret Gift of Christmas" (2023) certainly has one. But let's just say that her wardrobe is not a gift. Throughout the film, Bonnie wears loud, garish ensembles. This red and pink look is a great example. The color palette is clashing, with different shades of red and baby pink. The number of discordant details is also a bit obnoxious, with bows, pearls, and gold buttons. She doesn't look like she'd be a great personal shopper.
Emma is a bit too committed to that hat collection
Hallmark fans love "The Wedding Veil" series. The films revolve around three friends, played by Hallmark leading ladies Lacey Chabert, Alison Sweeney, and Autumn Reeser. The series centers around one very special accessory: a wedding veil, of course. Yet, there are some other accessories that cause a bit of a distraction: Reeser's character Emma's many, many hats.
Throughout the series, it's clear that Emma loves to pile on accessories. Yet, when she wears a loud hat, which she often does, it typically looks like a bit too much.
It looks like Emily got dressed in the dark in quite a hurry
"An Unexpected Christmas" (2021) features a fittingly unexpected travel outfit. Throughout the 2021 flick, Bethany Joy Lenz's character Emily sports a somewhat eccentric wardrobe. Yet, this particular ensemble took things a bit too far. With the dress, knee-high boots, jacket, scarf, gloves, and purse, many of these elements just don't go together to make a cohesive outfit. Sure — piling on lots of different pieces may be representative of Emily's personal style, but it makes for a distracting wardrobe.
Isaiah's Christmas sweatsuit should never, ever be worn outside his home
We get it — the Hallmark Channel loves Christmas, and many of its characters are no different. Yet, no matter how much you live for the holiday season, this festive sweatsuit is something that shouldn't be sported anywhere but the couch in the comfort of your own home. Yet, Corey Cott's character, Isaiah, goes out and about in this 'fit in "The Snow Must Go On" (2025), and it just doesn't feel like a particularly realistic outfit choice for a guy in his 30s.
Melissa McKean-Atkinson's fake pearls are a real fashion flop
In "A Christmas Melody" (2015), Mariah Carey plays snooty Melissa McKean-Atkinson, who prefers to be called by her full name, leads the charge in any situation, and sports her signature style for all occasions. Yet, said signature style is somewhat strange. She's committed to a high ponytail and strings of oversized, fake-looking pearls with every outfit, including this Adidas tracksuit. Big, fake pearls are an odd accessory choice, and for someone as stuck-up as Melissa McKean-Atkinson, seeing her in lots of very real diamonds would have been more logical.
