What's Really Going On With Becca Kufrin And Garrett Yrigoyen

After Bachelorette Becca Kufrin and Garrett Yrigoyen got engaged at the end of her season, they seemed like one of the most stable couples to come out of the Bachelor franchise. Of course, some fans had their suspicions that the two were a bad match. While Becca's season was filming, stories emerged about Garrett liking Instagram posts that promoted sexist ideals and claiming that a survivor of the shooting at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School was a crisis actor (via Huffington Post). Becca seemed to hold different political views, since she's a Democrat who participated in the Women's March (via Cheat Sheet). For his part, Garrett apologized for liking the posts, and in May, he and Becca celebrated their two year anniversary together. However, Garrett's recent controversial comments have left fans wondering whether Becca has broken up with him for good.

Garrett's posts about law enforcement got him in hot water

As protests rose across the nation against police brutality in the wake of the murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, Garrett took to Instagram to support law enforcement. The post brought waves of criticism, both from fans and from Bachelor alums like Bekah Martinez (via E!). At the time, the Bachelor franchise was coming under fire for their past failures representing people of color. A petition titled "A Campaign For Anti-Racism in the Bachelor Franchise" began being shared by prominent Bachelor Nation alumni like Tyler Cameron, Kaitlyn Bristowe, Nick Viall, and plenty more (via Cosmopolitan).

In June, Becca and former Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay came together on the podcast they cohost, Bachelor Happy Hour, to discuss race and The Bachelor. On the show, Rachel expressed her disappointment about Garrett's comments, while Becca tried to defend his character (via Cheat Sheet). Becca said, "Garrett is my fiancé and I love him and to his core, I believe that he is a good person. What he posted ... I don't align with and I don't agree with," said Kufrin. "I don't think he meant it in a malicious way, I do think it was tone deaf and it was the wrong time and message and sentiment. ... I'm trying to get him to see the bigger picture."

Becca said she doesn't know where her relationship stands

After recording and releasing the episode, Becca appeared to have second thoughts about her comments. When she posted the episode to her Instagram, her caption read, "I will be the first to admit that listening to this back, I came up short. Very short. I listen to this & wish I had said more, wish I could have expressed myself better, wish I could have given so much more than I did."

On the next episode of Bachelor Happy Hour, Becca apologized to Rachel for how she handled things. She also revealed her relationship with Garrett was up in the air (via People). "For those who are curious about my relationship with Garrett at this point, all I can say right now is that I don't know," Becca said. "I can't give anything more than that." Becca and Rachel continued to host new podcast episodes without elaborating further on Becca's relationship status.

Clues Becca and Garrett might have broken up

Since Becca's statement, Bachelor fans have been crawling her and Garrett's social media, looking for clues that the two have broken up. On July 21, Garrett posted photos from a wedding that he attended without Becca. On July 24, the official Bachelor Happy Hour Instagram posted a photo from Becca's Bachelorette season where she jumped into her runner-up Blake Horstmann's arms (via Life&Style). The post was deleted two hours later. Several of Becca's Instagram stories have shown her not wearing her Neil Lane engagement ring.

Reddit sleuths have gone even deeper with their digging, noting that Becca posted a story holding the book The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory. Since The Proposal's plot centers around a woman who turns down a very public proposal, commenters speculated Becca might find the plot relatable if she and Garrett did break up. That might be a stretch, but Bachelor Reddit has successfully predicted other franchise break-ups. On the other hand, Garrett did comment "Twinning :)" on a cute photo Becca posted with an adorable baby on July 19. Until Becca and Garrett make an official announcement, there's no way to know for sure.

What Rachel Lindsay really thinks of Garrett

While Becca and Rachel remain friendly, she's made her feelings about Garrett perfectly clear. In a recent episode of Everything Iconic with Danny Pellegrino, she didn't mince words. "He has doubled down on his beliefs," Rachel said. "This is not the first time he has had problematic behavior. When he was on his season, he had a history of 'liking' things that were racist, sexist, homophobic, calling the Parkland students 'child actors.' I mean, it was a lot. So, this is who this man is, and he's a piece of s***."

Rachel was happy to talk about her own feelings about Garrett, but she refused to comment on Becca and Garrett's relationship. "It was great for our friendship, Becca and I have a friendship," Rachel told Danny. "So I will refrain from talking about her relationship out of respect for her." Neither Becca nor Garrett have commented on Rachel's podcast appearance.
