Hollywood Reacts To The Death Of Alex Trebek

We have lost a great one in Alex Trebek. The longtime Jeopardy! host passed away Sunday. The show announced his death via Twitter: "Jeopardy! is saddened to share that Alex Trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends. Thank you, Alex." Fans of Trebek know the 80-year-old was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in March of last year (via People).

Social media was quick to respond to the sad news. One follower said what was on many of our minds with this comment: "Nooooo not Alex. 2020 needs to end!" Many expressed sadness and disbelief, while others thanked Trebek for providing entertainment over 8,200 episodes and 37 seasons that the iconic game show aired (via Variety). In addition to fans reacting to the talented star's passing, celebrities are already paying tribute to the American legend.

The Blacklist actor Amir Aronson was quick to share a sweet message about the Canadian, tweeting, "Who doesn't love this guy. A class act and an American treasure. RIP." If only we could all be so lucky to have this sentiment so widely shared about us upon our death. 

Actress Rosie Perez shared a funny anecdote about the host in her Twitter tribute, writing, "Very sad. #AlexTrebek fought with dignity to the very end. Will never forget filming with him #WhiteMenCantJump. He was kind and funny. When I mispronounced Mt. Vesuvius, he went right along & ad-libbed 'checking with the judges' and the rest is history. You will be missed! Xoxo."

Meanwhile, Fox commentator Britt McHenry shared her reaction to the news, tweeting, "Heartbreaking. He fought so hard and valiantly. Gave so many of us who battled our own health issues hope. A survivor through and through. RIP." The 33-year-old recently underwent surgery for a brain tumor in early 2020. The chairman of Disney, Robert Iger, also shared his condolences, tweeting, "We mourn the loss of #alextrebek — a friend, a colleague, an icon. He graced us with warmth, wit & pure elegance, which is why we welcomed him into our homes night after night, year after year. We are deeply saddened for his wife Jean, his family & millions of Jeopardy fans."
