Ree Drummond Shares Surprising Family News With Fans

Ree Drummond's family has grown bigger! The Pioneer Woman star and her husband, Ladd, are already the parents of four children (per Biography), and she recently revealed that they also have a foster son named Jamar who has been with the family for over a year.

"I haven't written or spoken publicly about him much, because for one thing, the state agency that handles fostering has strict rules against posting about foster children on social media, which I get," she wrote in a blog post excerpted from her upcoming book, Frontier Follies. "But mostly, and this is slightly related, I feel protective of Jamar and have always wanted his story to be his own and not fodder for my social media, which is often riddled with silly videos of my Basset hounds running toward the camera in slow motion."

Drummond added that she "never wanted to subject Jamar to more attention than he wanted or needed before he had a chance to settle in and get his bearings in our home."

Ree Drummond is delighted to have a 'bonus kid'

Drummond said that she finally announced that she has added to her family because she felt like it was time and because the legal restrictions have been lifted now that Jamar is 18. She wrote that Jamar is "an inextricable part of our wacky family" and that it has "become increasingly strange... not to talk about him." She added that her foster son is "tired of feeling like we're trying to hide him from the world."

"What I'm trying to say is, he's cool with my talking about him now, and he thinks it's about time, considering he's been in the family for over a year," wrote Drummond. "So let me take this opportunity to tell you all about my bodacious, bright, brilliant bonus kid named Jamar."

Drummond explained that it was her husband who came up with the idea to have Jamar live with them after meeting him at a high school football practice. Drummond's sons also knew him, and Jamar quickly became part of the family. "I could go on and on about Jamar, my bonus son," she wrote. "He's larger than life, has a hilarious laugh, and is extremely smart — both book and street."
