The Real Reason Melissa George Left Grey's Anatomy
Australian actor Melissa George has come a long way since her Home and Away days. And while she's continuously been popping up in hits like Heartbeat, The Good Wife and The Slap over the past few years, it's her departure from Grey's Anatomy that really has us asking questions (via IMDb). The main question being what's the real reason she decided to leave the long-running, much-loved series after just one season?
Playing the role of fan favorite Dr. Sadie Harris, Melissa George left Grey's Anatomy after just eight episodes. As the actor herself told Entertainment Weekly, "It was my choice." The reason being she wanted to "do something else." She continued, "I love the show so much," adding, "I've made some beautiful friends. I love T.R. Knight. I love Patrick Dempsey, Justin Chambers... I adore Ellen Pompeo. I think she's a strong, incredible woman. And Katherine Heigl is the most beautiful creature on Earth."
After Melissa George starred in Grey's Anatomy, she went on to become a Golden Globe-nominee
However, according to an ABC source, this isn't exactly true (via Entertainment Weekly). "Melissa's arc came to a natural end," they claimed. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the real reason Melissa George didn't become a Grey's Anatomy regular is because the series took a different creative direction than expected after Brooke Smith (better known as Dr. Erica Hahn) left. Whoever you believe it's safe to say that all her fans were sad to see her go.
Since leaving Grey's Anatomy, George has seemingly only gone on to bigger and better things, nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television for her work on In Treatment.
And we can't wait to see what she does next!
