What You Don't Know About Dr. Dre's Children

You know Dr. Dre as a music mogul, founding member of N.W.A., songwriter, producer, and, of course, for his Beats headphones, but while the bulk of his work and life kept him busy in the studio, he has been equally busy in the bedroom. Over the years, the rapper has fathered seven children by five different women, and only two of those kids are with his soon-to-be ex-wife of 24 years Nicole Young.

According to The Sun, the 55-year-old Dre fathered his two oldest children with two different young women as a teenager. Curtis Young, 39, didn't meet his dad until he was 20 years old, and 37-year-old La Tonya Young claims she hasn't seen her dad in 17 years. His son Andre Young was born in 1988, when the hip-hop icon was just 25 years old, and according to Distractify, it took a lawsuit by mother Jenita Porter to get monthly child support payments from Dre. Sadly, the LA Times reported that Dre's third child passed away of a drug overdose in 2008 at just 20 years old.

While engaged to R&B singer Michel'le Toussaint, Dre's fourth child, Marcel Young, was born. The couple never married but stayed together for what Distractify describes as a nine-year "toxic" relationship. The 29-year-old prefers to stay out of the limelight, and not much is known about his life.

Dre's three youngest children, Truice, Truly, and Tyra, were born during his marriage to Nicole Young.

Pursuing careers in the entertainment industry runs in the family

Dr. Dre's oldest son Curtis may not have had much contact with his dad when he was young, but he still followed in his father's musical footsteps. Known by his stage name Hood Surgeon, Dre's look-alike son is not only making a name for himself in the hip-hop industry, but according to Distractify, he's also branching out with his own business ventures, as well. He's opened his own cannabis dispensary in Canada.

Twenty-three-year-old Truice and 19-year-old Truly appear to have the closest relationship with their father. Truice might, as I Love Old School Music describes, look nothing like his famous father, but they do share an affinity for mixing beats. He's pursuing a career as a music producer, and chances are he'll succeed in carrying on his father's legacy. Truly briefly entered the public eye in 2019, when Dre boasted on Instagram about his daughter's acceptance in light of the college admissions scandal. After some negative backlash, he promptly removed the post, which originally read, "My daughter got into USC all on her own. No jail time!!!"

The youngest of the Dr. Dre brood, Tyra, is a bit of a conundrum. While Distractify alleges she is the third child of the rapper's marriage with Nicole Young, The Sun claims the 18-year-old's lineage is unknown. What we do know is that she is an aspiring actress with credits on the TV series Take Six, and she has also produced her own short film called Ropes of Silicone.
