The Truth About Justin Theroux's Birthday Message For Jennifer Aniston

The friendliest exes we've ever seen, Justin Theroux and Jennifer Aniston prove that you can stay on good terms after your relationship ends. The Friends actress recently celebrated her 52nd birthday, E! reports, and her ex-husband, Theroux, took to Instagram to wish her the best.

"Happy birthday @jenniferaniston" he wrote on his Instagram stories. At the bottom of the photo of his ex-wife standing on a staircase, the actor added, "[heart emoji] you b". The outlet reports that Theroux has wished his ex-wife a happy birthday every year since their divorce proceedings took place in 2018. In each of the tributes, he calls her by his nickname for her, "B." 

A seemingly small detail, the outlet also picked up on the fact that this is the first time that his birthday post for Aniston has actually tagged her account. Making his annual birthday wish public and direct, Theroux has been vocal about their love story in the past. He started dating Aniston in 2011 and the two married a year later before they split in 2018, People explains.

Even though they went their separate ways, the two actors remain on good terms and have even spent a few holidays together. In addition to liking Jennifer Aniston's Instagram posts in the past, Justin Theroux has even celebrated Thanksgiving with his ex-wife and her BFF, Courtney Cox. E! notes that in 2019, Aniston hosted a star-studded holiday celebration with the likes of Cox, Jimmy Kimmel, Will Arnett, and Jason Bateman, with Theroux in attendance as well.

A few months after their divorce, Theroux spoke with The New York Times regarding their split. "The good news is that was probably the most — I'm choosing my words really carefully — it was kind of the most gentle separation, in that there was no animosity," he explained. "In a weird way, just sort of navigating the inevitable perception of it is the exhausting part."

"It was heartbreaking," the actor continued, "only in the sense that the friendship would not be the same, as far as just the day to day. But the friendship is shifting and changing, you know, so that part is something that we're both very proud of." That friendship clearly has sustained the famous duo throughout the ups and downs their lives have taken. From Thanksgiving to birthdays, these two always have one another's back.
